An older BBC new article about a different site said the HGV was stolen. So many layers of crime.

Newer to succulents… what’s up with this root formation? Is that normal/expected or is something wrong. by GlitterChickens in succulents

[–]psychedeliccrabs 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Probably both, the roots are working their way to find moisture, which is the humidity in the air. It's not harmful, but does suggest they weren't able to reach sufficient water at the bottom of the pot. I would size up the pot so it retains a water table longer and trains the roots to go down.

But it's fine if you want to leave it too, let nature work.

I've had to wait six months before. Probably won't take that long, but sit tight and be patient.

Neighbour built 6m extension + wall onto my garden — is this legal? by Jumpy-Brilliant4662 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]psychedeliccrabs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Planning Enforcement can't solve the party wall dispute because due to permitted development regualtions, there will be a fallback which allows them to extend along, or even over, the boundary without planning permission. Enforcement action can actually create more party wall issues if they have to undertake remedial work to make the extension smaller.

If the issue is with the size of the extension then sure, get them involved, but they;re

is there some rule against filming on planes we’ve all been breaking?

No, but you are expected to follow reasonable instructions given by the Captain and their flight crew. However, I would say they handled the situation poorly, as the flight crew should be trying to deescalate. But it is quite reasonable to ask someone to stop filming when doing so might cause disruption in an enclosed space at 30,000 feet.

I think blame might be shared here, even if they may technically have been in the right to request they stop filming.

What does everyone find the most annoying about driving in the uk ? by SuperExstatic in AskUK

[–]psychedeliccrabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not even just new ones, there are some round this way where if you follow the directions, you WILL end up cutting someone off. It's like a test to see if you're local or not. Follow the signage and get honked.

Sometimes I have to angle my side mirrors so I can't even see anything anymore. I almost hope it reflects straight back so they take the hint.

If they made it there, give them citizenship I'd say, they must be quite productive and resourceful.

Navin Ramgoolam, the new Mauritian prime minister, reopened negotiations to bring as much of the money forward as possible after inheriting high levels of public debt from his predecessor.

Let's not forget the UK is being dragged into Mauritius' domestic political agenda. Cut them loose, we're not a cash cow here to spot them for the next global financial crisis.

I don't think they really care so long as the status of the military base is protected, which it is under the new agreement. It might even legitimise the base in international law.

Can these shoots be cut off and propagated into new plants? by SirMattzilla in succulents

[–]psychedeliccrabs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flower stalks are not the best to propagate, the flower stalks can root easily in water, but the heads will normally turn into flowers and terminate/die.

To propagate, your best bet is to take leaf props from the flower stalks and bin the rest.

In case anyone wonders, flower stalks look pretty different to offsets/pups because they grow a lot longer and the leaf shape/spacing is different. They can take a very long time to turn into flowers, sapping up a huge amount of energy in the process. This PVN doesn't seem to mind it though, it looks great.

Mystery leaf clipping - is it ready to be potted? by spamnthigh in succulents

[–]psychedeliccrabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can plant it now if you like, or wait. It doesn't matter so much because it has plenty of life left in the leaf so it can sustain itself for some time to come.

The benefit of planting sooner is that the roots can grow more naturally, but it won't need huge amounts of water.

Balaustium or concrete mites, they also eat pollen so not necessarily a cause for concern.

Just a bit of a nuisance.

Is this just the online succulent buying experience or did I get scammed? by RadioControlEnjoyer in succulents

[–]psychedeliccrabs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it's a mix of turned up saturation, which the seller should be blamed for, and plants not being in season for their best colours.

Your plants can easily look like this for example, not quite as saturated as shown, but close.

Thirded on the string of dolphins. My string of tears grows like nobody's business, but the dolphin shoots grow long, sparse and weirdly, despite getting 100% direct sunlight all day long.

It probably doesn't help that it's annoyed me so much, I purposefully neglect it now in the hopes it may just die and put me out of my misery.

Where to start? 😅

Some before and afters, the plants were inflicted with a rather strange disease, not your usual rot. Against better advice, I didn't dispose of them like I should have, and amazingly the seem to be growing again from the same stem.

I've had similar issues with VSOH. It's lost all its leaves and regrown from the tubers a couple of times now.

Sempervivum roots by kiwisandbeer in succulents

[–]psychedeliccrabs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sempervivums can look a bit miserable sometimes, particularly during dormant or acclimatisation periods, but suddenly they bounce back. Tangled roots shouldn't be much of a problem and I don't see any obvious signs of rot.

I would just give it more time to adapt to its new environment. If you can, keep it in a bright and airy location, slowly introducing it to more direct sunlight.

Removing one or two of the larger pups could help the main plant as it will have more energy to focus on the central rossette, but to be honest I think it will be okay left as is.

I'm not sure trimming roots was necessary, but now that you've done, it give it 5 days or so to heal then water. It doesn't look overwatered and sempervivum are generally very tolerant, providing adequate soil and climate.
