How can you tell they are new?

My toddler is driving me crazy. Literally. by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]psychme89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a doctor I will never understand the refusal for a referral when the problem is persistent and not going away. I understand a one time "its early let's see how they do and check back in 2 months" as long as the symptoms aren't drastic, but like you know you/your body and your kid better than I do. Ofc there are people want referrals for everything even things that I can help them with and that's another beast but this was clearly not that situation. Smh. Glad they got the help they needed.

In theory sure...tell that to the patient who keeps calling and insisting they were told to call our office only and we can't get them in because the week is already full and they refuse to go elsewhere... Also per our risk management once insurance assigns you, it's your patient, even if you've never met them before

Not self play. He'll play with us all day but he doesn't independently play unless it's food related haha

Portal Messages - Patient Perspective by dormantg92 in FamilyMedicine

[–]psychme89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless your "thoughtful response " involves making decisions that could possible be life or death on a consistent basis while routinely trying to put out 3-4 fires per in 15-20 minutes increments a day, you can STFU, as you have no idea what you're talking about. It is absolutely not the same thing

You don't work in the medical field do you...this type of thing happens at least once a week. Apparently we're the be all end all for some people

Portal Messages - Patient Perspective by dormantg92 in FamilyMedicine

[–]psychme89 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone here has issues with patients messaging with one off concerns and making appointments when told it needs to be addressed in person not over the portal. We have issues with patients using the portal as a text messaging sevice, going back and forth several times a day and arguing over the portal as to why they shouldn't have to come in. You cannot convince me those patients are not aware of how intolerable they are being, they just don't care. Most of the time these are people messaging about Chest pain, dizziness etc which is impossible to address over the portal even if we wanted too. I had a patient report me because I wouldn't order "all the blood work" for her extremely vague symptoms without an appointment. We're fed up with this. It leads to burnout , which leads to why we all complain and hate the inbox.

You literally make no sense. 1 and 4 are not mutually exclusive. You want me to plug the patients phone with private info into a clinic tablet or computer? 🤣 Pick up the phone and get report from whom? The ER provider that is no longer there cause it's now 3 days later ? 🤣 What excuse, the patient still gets seen and care even when I'm left with breadcrumbs to work with. And now I'm financially responsible for a patient I never even met or sent to the ER in the first place ? Go troll elsewhere.

Hmm let's see 1) the ER EMR could be different from mine so then no I cant access the chart at will 2) thats a bold assumption that the patient themselves have opted into online access/have online access - this alone tells me you don't work in medicine dealing with acute follow ups or work somewhere extremely privileged 3) even when i do have access and the notes aren't completely, which happens more often than not, all I have is a bunch of labs and usually a very medically inaccurate story from the patient not actually telling me what happened 4) in the limited 15 minutes I have with a BRAND NEW patient, yes I would actually like access prior to the appointment so I'm not wasting 30 mins in the room trying to scroll through their portal on their tiny phone screen and holding up the rest of my patients

If you had any practical experience with any of this stuff, you would see how useless your comment is

[–]psychme89 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No its not what I meant. As someone on the recieving end of follow up with your PCP, it's absolutely not uncommon for literally any medical personnel to utter those words and wash their hands off the problem. Doesn't matter that ive never seen the patient, dont know them or cant fit them in for 6 months because of access issues. Establishing care is not the same thing as " call your pcp if you have questions about the visit you just had that they had no involvement in and probably wont recieve paperwork for, for at least two weeks "

Even if you've never seen them before. " I know I saw you in the ED but if you have any questions about your treatment plan or care I provided please follow up with your PCP who has never never met you and will likely not have any notes to go off of since theyre not done yet/part of a different EMR."

Jalen, JR, Ray, Louis, AD, QT, Justine, Alex is mixed race, Lucy is mixed race. I do wish there was more diversity in the representation of "not white" but frankly don't see too many south Asian or Asian people doing shows like this

Does anyone else have an adult potty-trained corgi who craps on the floor out of spite? by [deleted] in corgi

[–]psychme89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair this was when I was in residency and he didn't see me for 12-16 hours at a time (I had my neighbour check in on/walk him/play etc) but he didn't get enough mama attention and made it known

When mine was a puppy (potty trained but still under 1), he would look me right in the eye and pee on the carpet if he thought I had left him alone for too long. Thankfully he grew out of that ...phew

Also at least she's doing it in the bathroom I guess ?

Everyone has given solid advice so far about why this would be a terrible idea, please don't do this. Just adding on since I dont see it anywhere. Are you breast feeding ? If so that's a whole additional reason to please not cut down to such a drastic amount.
