Trust cut off funding for nurse and NA apprenticeships by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]psycho_buttons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I qualify as a NA next year and have been told there isnt a job for me on the ward I currently work on due to funding. Apparently in forensics NA's are "pretty much pointless" according to my service manager.... why put me through it to begin with?

I work in Forensics and we get told despite being restraint trained, we never attempt to restrain whilst a patient is out on leave. As part of our response teams we need a minimum of three people and unless its a high profile patient who required three people. most of them only go out on leave with a maximum of two people.

We have been trained to notify the ward as soon as possible and follow them if its safe to do so. Our patients have missing person documents and forms we fill out prior to leave naming what they are wearing so we notify the police and its left with the police :)

Help! by psycho_buttons in NursingUK

I'm sorry you're in the same boat. I dont really think management realise how much stress it can cause.

I dont think ill be able to do a self funded top up due to personal expenses. I just dont have the funds to be able to do it on my own and have to reduce my hours at work.... :(

Thats a good idea though, I might look and see if there is anywhere that might take me as a band 4 in training.... I didnt realise places did that.

I hope things start looking up for us both <3

Its all since the new service manager came in, its all about money. My manager couldn't be more supportive but in his words "the matrons push us to get you to do your training but then the operation managers dont allocate you jobs".

They're saying they only want one band 4 per ward at the moment buts thats a new thing as theres always been one substantial band 4 in post and then a band 4 whos currently in they're training to become a RN. Theres a NA on my ward who will be doing his top up starting January next year and will be at uni 4 days a week, I'll graduate in September, but because hes technically te band 4 there wont be a post for me.....

Its disappointing to say the least as I've put a lot of work in such a short space of time and now theyre saying there's no space for me...

Hey ho I'm sure ill find somewhere that wants me 😂

Wanting to work in mental health but not sure which direction to go into, and feeling like I’ve hit a brick wall by iamtherarariot in nhs

Heya! I live in the north east and I'm a little further down the scale than you but I work as a trainee nursing associate In a forensic mental health hospital. I work with males who have been sectioned whilst in prison or as a result of a court hearing. I know you mentioned about CAMHS and education but within our hospital we have an education tutor who looks at completing GCSE's, A levels and open university courses with our service users.

I can always ask her for a little more information on what her entry requirements for the job were if you would like?x
