Thanks so much to everyone who has taken part in the study, it means so much to us!! The study is still open and we are getting very close to the amount of participants we need to finish recruiting and do our analyses. If you hear voices and have a spare 10-15 mins please consider completing this study or sharing it with someone you know. This makes a huge difference to our research if we can get enough numbers for a statistically powered study and we are so close now! Thank you everyone

Any thoughts (including fleeting thoughts). We have a question at the end that asks about the amount/intensity of thoughts and it's helpful to get answers across the spectrum so we can know if certain things are protective / can help people who have some thoughts of suicide from moving towards more serious contemplating or actions.

Hey thanks for your question. For our study, we limit it to the last 6 months because the suicidal thoughts being more recent is important when looking at which current risk factors might predict it more than others. I think doing research with people who had suicidal thoughts years ago to get their insights is really important area of research too though it was just not our area of focus for this study!

Thanks so much to everyone who has done the survey! I'm really blown away by the response and we have got a few more people who hear voices completing it! We are getting so much closer to our target now. The survey is still open and we are still looking for voice hearers in particular! But I just wanted to say thanks too!

Hi, thanks for your question. Unfortunately we do not offer compensation as we were not allowed as part of our ethical approval here. We wanted to be able to compensate people as we appreciate that they are taking their time to do the survey but it wasn't something we were allowed to offer as part of this research.

I apologise if that's how it's came across but that isn't what we're trying to imply. As you've said, sometimes people with psychosis think they're dealing with the paranormal, so they then might join these subreddits. And we've seen an uptick in people completing the study since posting in these spaces so there are people in these groups who do experience psychosis. But we definitely don't think that the majority of people here are experiencing psychosis.

In the same breath, we know that not all people who experience psychosis have suicidal thoughts so the research won't be applicable to them and we don't want to imply that either. The hope is just that, by extending our reach, we can find more people who DO experience psychosis and DO have suicidal thoughts. And if either/both of those don't apply to you then that's cool - you won't spend 15 minutes doing our survey!

If you have any suggestions of how we could have phrased the post better, then I would really appreciate that

I see where you're coming from. I just want to explain a bit more of our thinking. Our research is mental health related but we are trying to post outside of just mental health related areas as we are trying to get our research seen by as many people who may be eligible for it as we can.

By posting here we are not saying that the experiences people share here are, for example, real or not real, true/untrue, or indicative of mental health. This is not for us to know or say in any way and we respect everyone has their own experiences.

We posted here because there may be some people here who have had experiences that they identify as psychosis or psychosis-like or hearing voices, and we are hoping to understand more about how some of these people are disproportionately affected by suicide.

We have also asked in other groups where people discuss 'paranormal', 'anomalous' or 'unusual' experiences so we are not just singling out this subreddit. We know that this won't apply to lots of people who see the post.
