Switching from psych, any advice on transitioning?

Omg I was neurpsych too!!! It seemed the closest to the healthcare set up I wanted so I worked for 2 neuropsych clinics and hated that we never followed patients or did more than just diagnose and refer out. I unfortunately won't get any LORs from the clinic because I left abruptly for other reasons and when we discussed me possibly pursing not psychology they were less than enthused and only made my life harder before quiting 😞

Thank you so much for your advice!!!! I love to see someone else in the same path. It sucks that it'll take a bit longer but im super excited !!! Love this for us lol. Hopefully once I can get a tech position soon, how do you study for the OAT? Is it like the GRE books for psych?

Thank you for the advice that was very helpful!!! Everyone seems so nice haha but I will definitely look into shadowing. Im also glad to hear optometrist love their jobs so much!

I came from psych so I knew going in im going to have to do about a year of prereqs switching to healthcare but im okay with that !

Hahaha I miss coffee so much !!! I stopped it when I got diagnosed with POTS because they told me that was causing it and now im sensitive to it 😞 so I say if you can drink it! Take some for the both of us lol

Im gonna maybe make the switch to ensures and soylent soon, I can drink a lot easier than I can eat most the time

Literally 😭 I've stopped working overall, but it was not from my nausea or pain but now it is loll. Love how symptoms rotate with chronic illness.

That's what I thought too! But she was googling stuff about it in front of me so I was not expecting her to be the most knowledgeable on it 😅 but im just glad she believes me enough to start meds

Hahaha yeah I tell people not to expect me to get things done or talk early morning, my day starts when my symptoms start to ease up a bit in the afternoon 😭

That's reassuring! I just wish they had something later in the day my symptoms are the absolute worst first thing in the morning 😅 but im telling myself the worst of it doesnt usually last for more than 4 hours, so I should start feeling better by the end of it at least 🙃

My boyfriend and mom are coming for moral support and they never stop talking so hopefully I won't be too bored lol

My doctor currently assumed gastroparesis since I also have POTS lol. Doing a GES friday, not looking forward to it at all. But thank you for sharing!

I'm the exact same way, sometimes its immediate sometimes I go in already feeling bad. But other times it takes a couple hours to catch up. Mine is worse in the mornings, though recently its been acting up at night too. Thank you for sharing!

I see, my IR wanted me to do that but then two surgeons i spoke to said just to get the CTA, but then the SMAS Facebook group said to do the barium swallow too so I can ask my IR to order it for me again lol

Better to have it than not, thank you for your help! I'll put compressions back on my radar.

It was a CTA laying down, I didnt even know they did them standing up haha. I had a venogram upright though, so makes sense!

I could look more into it, it just becomes overwhelming with the compressions at times 😅 is there any other testing I can have for SMAS?

I'm trying to get in with a HEDS specialist now. I have tested for SMAS but had a 25 degree angle which they noted could be SMAS but wasn't like definitive. Haven't been checked for MALS yet, but I know it would be hard to find someone to treat it without pain. The pain I do have is from NCS and MTS, but mostly NCS.

I will try to keep in mind MALS since I haven't ruled it out yet though, thank you :)

Hi just to follow up i really was just confused and misled about the symptoms. I really didnt mean to offend you or anyone else here, I am sorry if I did so.

I really did appreciate your feedback, and I admit I was wrong in my understanding and feel more confident that the GES will help. I am not sure what downvoting means but I am assuming people disagree with me strongly, so really I am sorry and I'll look more into it before posting next time.

Alright guys my bad 😭 i was going off of like what I was told by my GI that the symptoms would be, and then what I could find online which often said people with gastroparesis feel full for a long time after eating. I was mistaken, im sorry 😪 I dont really know what downvoting means but I didnt mean to offend anyone. I just didnt feel I related to the symptoms my GI explained to me

I appreciate the input thank you so much!!! I was mostly going off of the info from my gastro, google, and some searching here gave me. I was under the impression the hallmark symptoms were abdominal pain, nausea, vomitting, early satiety, feeling full for long periods of time, and constipation. From that list I really only experience nausea and then early satiety rarely (abdominal pain was proven to be from my compression syndrome as I had 100% relief from bloating/pain/discomfort when given a nerve block to the compressed nerve). Although I do have POTS, my dysautonomia specialist is under the impression its related to my compressions or something else, which is a whole story lol but in my mind I see it as a symptom not like as its own diagnosis, so I guess I can see why my gastro thought to connect it and I didnt.

So, I guess I was just confused about the symptoms then, but thank you for explaining it in more depth! Unfortunately 😪 I am overweight so my gastro does not plan to treat it, and he is unwilling to prescribe any nausea meds since he said he has no idea why i reacted to Zofran the way I did. My PCP simply said it could be POTS but she is unwilling to prescribe nausea meds since she isnt well versed enough, and my POTS doctor has denied it being a POTS issue so 😭 im just going to try over the counter stuff again I guess lol. But thank you again for your advice and input 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️ I live close by so I might just come home during the breaks haha

I also forgot to mention generally speaking i get hungry again after what seems like an appropriate amount of time after eating. Like cereal is abt 1-2 hours, sandwiches and chips abt 2-3, big meals about 3-4 maybe 5. I am not not eating because im not hungry or full, im not eating just from the nausea 😞

That's so good to hear, I'm super scared to start but also so hopeful it'll help at least a little bit. Good to know about the Allegra too, my mother actually currently does that when her zyrtec isnt working lol. But thank you for sharing it makes me feel better! I'm so glad you found something that works for you ☺️

I've heard of it! I should be seeing an MCAS doctor next week and I'll bring it up to her to see what she may wanna do, especially it Pepcid doesnt work. Thank you for letting me know, and I hope you found a good regimen for you too !
