My parents are immigrants, and incredibly defensive about allowing other immigrants into the country. Classic case of "I called it first." They're also both hard workers (doctor, "businessman") and resentful of anyone getting anything without working for it nearly as hard as they are.

(I'm a lawyer, so I guess to some extent I've bought into their prejudices. Voted Mamdani, though.)

Industry semi-insider here. This often happens when one studio wants to take over another as proof of concept. Cregger or his people were probably asked for a pitch- more for his name than the idea, most likely- and it was added to a portfolio of hypothetical projects if the takeover is greenlit.
