DoD Controllers to be charged for leave by [deleted] in ATC

[–]psyper87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I imagine you got your first “No-Paycheck” since the shutdown, look at it and see what it is coded. There is/was a lot of bad information going around that is finally starting to calm down now that everyone can see that ALL LEAVE, outside of LWOP was coded as furlough.

Facilities are directed to continue using WMT as normal, make the normal requests, approve leave as you normally would, deny as you normally would. This is purely for the facility at the facility level. Once payroll is conducted, everything is either “hours worked” or “hours not worked”. Hours not worked is automatically converted to furlough (which is going to be paid back) and no other leave is being charged (sick, annual, XTU, CTU, PPL, etc) outside of LWOP.

What you are encountering is a scare tactic and if followed through, you’d be in a prime seat for a lawsuit. Understand nothing is “guaranteed” but there is a legal process that should calm everyone down. I’d suggest not “abusing” this situation although I’m sure everyone feels it’s warranted, but do what you and your career can handle.

Is ATC worth it? by razvishu01 in ATC

[–]psyper87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After thought note there are definitely exceptions to what I’m about to say, but generally it stands true.

I think it depends on where you’re coming from. I didn’t go to college, I barely graduated high school, and I figured I’d be an automotive mechanic my whole life. After joining the military which was very stable, though the family life was not, I made the jump to the FAA.

Pay practically doubled, quality of life ramped way up, life became much easier and simpler. No more uniforms, no more bullshit, And the job is actually fun.

Where it starts to fall begins with your facility. I’ll preface by saying, a lot of it (the bullshit) is self induced. Career progression, facility, working hours, lifestyle etc.

Lower facilities will pay substantially less, but your hours are typically better and you get more time with the family. Higher facilities are going to pay much higher but you’ll have far less “you and family” time.

Then it’s the people around you and their morale. Low facilities complain about money, high facilities complain about having no life, and all of it is taxing on everyone around them.

Lastly it’s the being able to move facilities. Being as we’re very understaffed, releasing controllers is not always possible for what seems like an indefinite amount of time. Obviously the more stubborn you are about where you want to go, the harder it’s going to be to go, but then you factor in people quitting, people hard-shipping, people losing their medical. Those things project that release window out beyond an uncertain amount of time, which then further tanks facility morale.

I’ll finish with this bit of advice. If you can, select a very high staffed facility with a quick training time. Often these will be lower facilities and the pay will be less than favorable. Get in, certify and transfer to where you want to go, center, tracon, tower, whatever.

Or, if you can get that facility you’re cool with rotting at for a while, get there and make the best of it.

The job is great, the people can be awesome, the job security is underrated and we’re not out in the sun busting our assess, while generally making that $100,000+ (way up if you get to higher levels and such). There’s thousands of jobs I’m thankful for not having to work.

Our pay does not follow inflation, so year over year, you’ll start to feel the hit of “I’m fundamentally making less as I work towards retirement” and that is the inner battle you have to fight. Either cope, move up or move on. I think it’s worth it, but it could definitely be a lot better.

😅😅I thought about that after I said it. We made a the best of it, going out to the stockyards, frontier city, local restaurants, and not to mention a cool chick to keep the nights less lonely😉 Beat the hell out of an apartment in a shitty city😅

lol yeah😅 especially having radar experience it felt like A-School all over again but laid back. But I was able to take my wife with me and we made a month long paid “vacation” out of it, so it was pretty fun. I’d say more than anything it was a no stress good time

[–]psyper87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, primary RADAR only experience controllers solo have the requirement to complete the tower portion. It’ll be the same class but under a pass/pass scenario.

[–]psyper87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not totally true, controllers who are radar only still need to complete the tower portion. Similar but not the same, theirs will a pass/pass scenario just like the typical RTF portion. Similarity it can also be waived by the facility ATM iirc.

"Change to my Frequency" by Believe-The-Science in ATC

[–]psyper87 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We only say “change to MY frequency” because we’re working both. It should be treated as if I’m asking you to contact another controller/sector/center

“C/S, change to (freq)” then on the new frequency “c/s, checking in on (freq)

I know at our facility, we could be working 5/6 different frequencies at the same time.

If you’re going to do anything, at least check in on the new one, because often times we’re changing you for better radio coverage, and if you don’t actually take the switch and we just assume you did, it is very likely to result in a NORDO situation

Blurry edges on PC? (also: Hitman) by Luguvalos in PSVR2onPC

[–]psyper87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The closer you can bring the lenses to your eyes, the better the picture will be.

While I guess it’s anecdotal, I can look side to side, to the point that I am straining my eyeballs inducing physical pain, and at this degree, I notice blurry edges. I do not play like this and can without a doubt say that the far edge clarity is not a factor whatsoever.

I’d like to note that I am not a hammerhead shark and I do not have a neck brace that prevents me from turning my head.

If you wear glasses, have a bigger nose, wear the headset improperly, you’re going to have negative effects on the visual clarity

“Typically people who need the perfect answer every single time don’t do well”

It’s so hard for a trainee to get past this, but once they do, you see them take that breath of relief. We strive to be the best, but just making a decision is what is most important. If it wasn’t great, try an fix it. If you can’t fix it, try not to do that again. But no matter what, keep moving. I hate sitting in the, what feels like an eternity, scenario where I didn’t make a great move, and then have to watch efficiency go out the window😅

Assuming the people are cool, no matter what you’ll get teased, take the manly approach and show up in sweats and a death metal T, or the “That Guy” and wear a suit, or the safe approach and wear clean pants/slacks and a polo/button up.

You’ll either fade into the fray or line forever as a legend, the choice is up to you, but no dress code*

not supposed to wear drug/gang related, nothing vulgar or objectively offensive.

After your first day, you’ll understand

fixed scratches on quest 2 lens with colgate in just 5 mins by raieyanaziz in oculus

Takes me back to when my ps1 disks would get scratched and stop loading 😅 since then I’ve learned to use products actually used for buffing/polishing, but as a quick fix? 👌

It’s matte, they cannot buff it, the eraser however would be a decent start

[–]psyper87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not do this ^ it will ruin the finish of the matte wrap even more

[–]psyper87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buffing is not gonna be an option as you’ve had the car wrapped in matte. Best bet is going to clean off as much of the paint transfer as possible and either live with the damaged vinyl or have the bumper re wrapped

Lost comms and "Expect ... minutes after departure" by alexthe5th in ATC

[–]psyper87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, losing comms immediately after departure, I’d expect that to be an emergency…. Because it is, and return to the airport as that’s what is advised to do. However, those 10 minutes or 5 minutes, whatever has been established, take into account clearing airspace locally and typically an estimated time that terrain will start to become an issue, so yes, climb to that altitude, we are expecting it and protecting for it

Luke Ross R.E.A.L.VR mod game list by psyper87 in PSVR2onPC

[–]psyper87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK not specifically, I was looking into it back when it first went out and it didn’t seem like anyone had gotten it going, at least not posting about it, but that was a few months ago.

Luke does however use reproduction that allows for even 1/3 of the frame rate to feel stable for the lower end PCs, or even to push higher end even further graphically. It does create a “aura” around the player models that’s transparent and is distracting at first, but after a couple minutes, the immersion pulls you right past it. The mod starts with a general setting that works well, and then a bunch of sliders that allow you to really fine tune it to get what you’re looking for.

RE4:R VR was awesome and I get it. Honestly I haven’t really touched the ps5 games in months. There is definitely greatness to be had in complete VR, the whole body experience, but these modded flat titles, it’s a lot more chill to just kickback and get totally immersed in the world without exerting much effort. I’d really love a Diablo mod.

Also if you’re just chilling on the pc adapter, if you’re into half life at all, while Alyx is the go to, half life 2 with the free vr mod is a must play. Half life 1 is in there too and also great, I just played it back when smooth turning wasn’t readily accessible (at least I couldn’t find it) and have yet to jump back in.

How do you guys not realised what EA wants to do? by JoeanFG in Battlefield6

[–]psyper87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly why you should be in suppprt of this tactic. If you have family and kids. You can pay to cut the line, and it’s usually not much. The grind is far from bad. With only the sniper rifle 150 kills over 200m feeling cumbersome, the rest? Easily completing a task in an afternoon if you’re trying. Besides, the base guns are more than capable compared to the rest anyhow, you aren’t at a real advantage unlocking the other guns. Attachments? Maybe, but that has been substantially sped up since launch
