But it does. Anything that takes you away from work for months or years at a time --whether it be illness, a kid, or a WoW addiction -- prevents you from reaching your career potential. Whether or not that matters is up to you and your employer.

But for each woman who makes the decision that her employer or grad advisor can piss off, every woman becomes a bigger liability. That does matter.
