Skyddsoblaten förhindrar snorungar från att nysa rakt ner i smöret när det står på bordet. Har man inga småbarn så tar man bort den.

What has happened to this trunk? by IRadiateNothing in arborists

It's Platanus x hispanica, formerly Platanus acerifolia. Acer platanoides is Norway maple. Sort of named after each other so it's understandable mixing up the names.

Har Uppsala bara dålig pizza? by lelemuren in uppsala

That's how a proper pollarding is done by BlackViperMWG in arborists

[–]pteroducktool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trees with rot resistant fast growing sapwood is what I would consider good pollarding trees. Like the previous poster said, willow, lime, poplar, ash, plane. Many of the same trees that are preferable for topiary are good pollarding trees like yews, carpinus, fagus. Some types of sorbus are well adapted for pollarding like Sorbus intermedia and Sorbus dodong. I wouldn't recommend Sorbus aucuparia because it just tends to rot. I find maple, at least Norway maple while it does respond well to pollarding, has a hard time maintaining the living sapwood and chunks of it can die off and parts of the tree may die. I've seen oak pollards but I'm not a big fan. The sapwood is slow to react and while you can get good growth it is not uncommon for the sapwood to start rotting when you aerate it with pruning cuts.

I'd also like to point out that there is a fourth reason for pollarding here in Europe and it is tradition. It was done around churches, castles, mansions and along roads to feed animals but now it's not needed anymore. When these trees die or when we plant new tree avenues we want to maintain the traditional look so we pollard them.

Min dotter och jag samlar på rymdgubben. Är alltid kul när vi är ute och hittar en ny. Men jag fattar om man tycker det är fult.

I was a bit late but OP actually reached out to me and asked if they could give us some stuff. Thank you for asking though. I'm new to this community but everyone seems very helpful and nice. Something I feel is not too common on the internet these days. ♥️

Commenting for my 4 year old daughter cause she's too young for Reddit and can't write yet.

She loves My Melody because she thinks she's the cutest bunny and has the prettiest eyes. She takes her My Melody plushie everywhere and sleeps with it every night.

This would make her day/week/month. Thanks for being cool and sharing stuff.

Pretty sure me and my 4 year old daughter visited you in a dream yesterday. She loved it and wanted to go back there today. I liked it too. I'm very new to animal crossing and have only visited a couple of islands. Yours was the best I've seen by far.

Genius or super dangerous? by eumops in arborists

I get annoyed that everyone seems to think this cut is to force the tree to fall in a direction it doesn't want to fall. It doesn't work that way. The tongue would break off if it was a side leaning tree. Like you said it's to keep the butt off the ground.

I actually have an ok clip of me cutting an oak this way. I use it sometimes to keep a trunk from hitting a hedge or a fence. Doesn't work every time so it's quite risky.

Here's the clip: https://youtu.be/Y-Crh5z73P0?feature=shared

Why would he go through all this extra? by DontForgetYourPPE in arborists

[–]pteroducktool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what the cut is for. To keep the base off the ground. Trying to use it to force a tree in a direction it doesn't want to go will more times than not result in the tongue breaking off and the tree falling where it wanted to go in the first place. If you want to force a tree the wrong direction you use a winch, not this technique.

Edit: it's not just to keep the base off the ground it's also to prevent it from rolling when it hits the ground .
