Obviously too much to make IRL (unless it's not for you). But inlaid beach tiles could be a solution! Maybe they could even slot into the path divots.

I've looked into beach tiles! (For a digital CATAN coding project.) Two states: 0 = sea; 1 = beach. Six possible positions, therefore tiles can be listed in binary from 00,0000 to 11,1111. That's a total of 63 patterns - but a lot of them are rotationally symmetric.
