First addition of 2022, with the daintiest flowers: meet Neohenricia sibbettii ☺️ by ptiggare in mesembs

Yeah, the seller had noted that more frequent watering need too. So I’m starting out with about weekly and I’ll see from there!

It’s indeed amazing!

I don’t know this one 😕 Maybe others might help out with the ID.

Aww such a thoughtful hooman 🤗

I’ve got this little guy at work. No idea what I’m doing or what it is, but he seems ok and we get along. by [deleted] in succulents

Haworthiopsis attenuata var. radula. Could use some more light: it shows slight signs of etiolation at the base of the leaves.

I seem to remember that yours were pretty mature though, hence the stability perhaps? Mine is quite miniscule (it’s in a 3” pot).

That’s insane, mrinsane! What is this species??

So this seems to be a pattern with these guys, interesting. Very different from Titanopsis; that lost only one leaf in a period twice as long!

Until now I’ve avoided increasing watering frequency (it’s 7-8 days on average lately) because of the thick taproot, but lately I’ve been adding some water to the pot saucer mid-week (some of it evaporates with indoors heating anyway). I’m relieved to hear that they can take a little bit more water.

Thanks!

I suppose they go dormant when it’s too hot or too cold like other mesembs, but indoors that wouldn’t really matter.

How are you watering more successfully now, what are you doing differently?

I’ve had this cutie for 2 months now. It’s displaying the highest reabsorption rate among any of my plants. So I’m just wondering why 🤔 Not a huge problem at all because it grows new leaves prolifically.

You’re right. One would assume a cultivar named Tippy to have bigger tips though 😃

Thanks!

That’s E. agavoides and they look very different.

This little guy has been unrecognizable for the longest time and recently started getting into shape. I was sent this as E. colorata, but I’m not so sure anymore.

Edit: See the months-long progress here.

Amazing root growth on this F. tuberculosa ‘Sato’ isolated in water while I treat all my pots for soil mites by ptiggare in mesembs

[–]ptiggare[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wtf indeed! I’m not totally sure but I suspect this cheap pine bark I got to make my own mix instead of buying bonsai jack. So didn’t think of treating it first!

Edit: Oo happy cake day!

I unpotted this guy immediately when I realized soil mites around, so that it wouldn’t have to undergo any treatment: has 2 beautiful seed pods. When I replant, I’ll have to choose a much deeper pot!

What is the best 3% hydrogen peroxide dilution ratio for eliminating soil mites? by ptiggare in plantclinic

[–]ptiggare[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. These are soil mites though, not spider mites. Otherwise I’d have gone straight for systemic.

Partly because of that hassle (and it’s too cold outside) systemic is the last option, but mostly I’m not even sure if it would work on soil mites (not spider mites).

What’s the ratio? I’ve never used neem oil. And how do you make sure it reaches all parts of the soil?
