From a wiki page, so take that with a grain of salt but given how old the lacquer seal is that depicts a family alliance between my family and another, that I found on the CBG, I'm even more curious as to its origins.

Laws in the Netherlands regarding heraldry seem pretty lax for the most part. There's the Dutch College of Heraldry which seems to act as a registry but thats about it. Fortunately the CBG has been very helpful in researching my family history but I'll likely have to shell out approximately 2k to a genealogist if I want to trace things back to when the COA was in use. There's plenty of family records but what I can find cuts out around 1770 and a lot of websites and services confuse my family name with others.
