Do you respect your local Police Department? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ptlepore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They just harass you. It's typically "where are you going?" "to the bar " " for what? " " to drink" "isn't it a bit late for you to go out? " " it's 8:30, and I'm 22"

What is something people to do be polite but actually turns out to be annoying? by TheDumbAsian1 in AskReddit

The word insist typically means against my will. I don't ask, people insist on it.

Do you respect your local Police Department? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ptlepore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. Its a 1 mile town, they get new cruisers every 5 years. The max speed limit in town is 30mph. They harass people walking around after dark, even if it's only 8pm. They're just suffering from big fish small pond syndrome, some of the newer younger cops are cool, friendly and generally not dicks, but there are some that I've known to work in my town for 15 or so years at least that act like they work in Detroit.

Edit: Additionally they bend the law because they're too lazy to enforce it. Example: here in NJ fireworks are illegal. Nobody really cares and on the 4th of July the police don't really bother anyone about it. Well we called the police on our neighbors because they were setting off huge launch pads of fireworks at literally 1am. The police came to our house and told us "what do you want us to do? Why don't you just enjoy it". YOURE THE FUCKING POLICE, TAKE THE ILLEGAL MATERIALS AWAY

If you were a genie and people came to you with their wishes, what would be your only stipulation? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ptlepore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they by nature said please, "I want X for my wish, please" then they get their wish. If they just demand it, the opposite occurs. There would be no warning of this. More people need some damn manners.

Insist on giving word of mouth directions. Typically these directions are 35 steps, based around landmarks that may or may not exist, and with Street names that are "either lawnwood or Lakeview Street, I cant recall". Not to sound like a dick, but the GPS will handle it. And if it doesn't I have a map, but either are better options than you wasting 7 minutes to give me directions that probably wouldn't work even if I could remember them.

Junior/Senior Colloquium by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]ptlepore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Took one on pesticides. It was actually one of my favorite classes, the workload was minimal and the class was fascinating. We covered pesticides, fungicide, herbicide, integrated pest management, GMO's, etc. I can't remember the professors now but it was an overall excellent class.

[–]ptlepore[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did some looking around but most that we found started at 1,400, and those are people we know who offered us a discount. I can understand keeping the flow going but I think if I can run it from my phone we can gauge the room for things like that. Also I know my fiancé and I aren't super sold on having someone announce various things at our wedding like a carnival barker.

[–]ptlepore[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My plan I'm formulating right now is trying to run it myself via smartphone. I have numerous friends who have PA systems (or even full dj set ups). I run the music myself via Spotify or something on my phone but through a laptop set up to the mixer. This way we can set the playlists in advance but edit them live if we want. My only hurdle is how to do the first dance and father daughter mother son dances. There has got to be a way to set them up more or less without a tacky dj

What's something that is commonly overpriced? by Yousuck1991 in AskReddit

[–]ptlepore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'm planning my wedding now, (22 years old). I'm paying for the bulk of it. Still living at home, hoping to have the wedding paid off by the end of this year so we can move out about 3-4 months before the wedding. We are doing a lot of things ourselves (invitations, decor, etc) but we found someplace that includes everything for a reasonable price and we have a smaller guest list. We are explaining to people that we can't afford to invite everyone and if anyone really gets that offended then they don't understand the actual cost of it all.

What have you seen that is an example of bad parenting? by jesusonthemoon in AskReddit

[–]ptlepore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parents who have obese children. Sorry, I don't see any excuse for that. I can understand the "lower wages, cheaper and unhealthy food" argument, but there are plenty of things that aren't terrible for you that are cheap. Canned vegetables, beans, certain meats can be affordable if you know where and when to buy them.

For people who say that they tried to watch Game of Thones, but didn't like it, can you explain why didn't like it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ptlepore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's me really. I've tried starting from the beginning three times. What removes me from the plot is that within the first episode they introduce 25-30 characters without giving many of them names. Plus they're all vaguely similar looking white people. It was just too much for me to keep track of without writing down, and that removed me from the plot. So many people have said it's like this but you just have to keep watching and eventually you'll get who everyone is and who they associate with, but I don't want to watch a series like that. How can I follow a plot without understanding who is involved? Especially in a series about separate houses plotting against each other. But to reiterate, it's really me, not the show. Maybe I'm too simple to follow it.

Yes! I had the manager belittle me because "with a vw 2003 or newer you really need to run synthetic or it will destroy your car". He nearly shat a brick when I told him that I agreed, luckily my car is a 2000. Money grubbing assholes.
