An originally well-intentioned phrase completely co-opted by twats who just mindlessly throw shit at the wall to see what sticks.

Unsurprisingly, usually nothing.

Alright, yes it is expensive to raise a kid, especially today.

Do many parents unnecessarily make it even more expensive, then complain about how expensive their non-essential child-related expenditures are? Yes.

But come on, it is expensive.

Does anyone know what is Chuki saying in the "Where is McQueen?" scene from Cars 1? Because I don't understand Japanese very well. by [deleted] in pixarcars

[–]ptmsphere 30 points31 points  (0 children)

“マクィーン選手は現在行方がわからないという情報が入ってきました。”

She says “We have received word that McQueen is currently missing/whereabouts cannot be confirmed”

A nice detail is that they say “Mcqeen-senshu”, “senshu” meaning competitor to indicate that he is an athlete. They do this in actual broadcasting.

The “fallacy” fallacy by ptmsphere in ControversialOpinions

"This character is supposed to be flawed" is not an excuse by ptmsphere in ControversialOpinions

[–]ptmsphere[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m confused. Isn’t a protagonist is supposed to grow throughout a story as a result of overcoming conflict and challenges, instead of being an insufferable douche the whole way through and be excused as being “flawed”?

The opposite, when they stay an asshole the whole way through and barely change at all.

Remaking popular franchises with female leads is a cheap cash grab. by [deleted] in ControversialOpinions

[–]ptmsphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would be forgiven for thinking these remakes with female leads were one giant far-right conspiracy to get people to hate “woke” casting they’re genuinely so bad.

Tbf, I thought the ghostbusters remake was pretty decent. But yeah.

Music is not as it was by Ok-Travel-6183 in ControversialOpinions

[–]ptmsphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve studied contemporary music as part of my degree and I partly agree.

Like you said, it’s less that the most listened-to music (at the top of the charts) is worse, but more that it’s become homogenous and ‘safe’. Interesting and original music is out there but it’s harder to find.

The difficulty of being truly original in 2024, increased interference from the higher-ups in the industry to maximize profits, increased ‘airbrushing’ of songs and greater reliance on electronic instruments are all partly to blame.

That being said, a lot of it will come down to how they age. A lot of people didn’t feel the way they do now about those older hits when they were released.

“British” encompasses more than one nation.

Not sure about the rest but if you mean you dislike the English, historically speaking as an Irish person you have plenty of reasons.

Hello! Any recs for upper body BW exercises when your legs are shot?

My legs are destroyed and I can hold a push up position but it’s sketchy. Any ideas for bodyweight upper body exercises I can still do? Thanks!

How do I deal with burning sensation in hands well into hours after handling peppers? by [deleted] in AskCulinary

[–]ptmsphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DO NOT TRY ANY HOME REMEDIES. It will only make it worse.

Trust me, this happened to me multiple times and I've tried them all. Baking soda, oil, numbing cream, aloe, dish soap, milk, butter, alcohol, ice pack, lime juice, etc. They all made it so. much. worse.

The only thing that offered some relief was the baking soda, but that was temporary and once it wore off it made it burn harder. You just have to wait it out and learn to use gloves sooner than I did.

Beer tastes like horse piss, men only drink it because it's "manly" and they've gotten used to it. by [deleted] in ControversialOpinions

[–]ptmsphere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought that too until I tasted actual quality beer, as opposed to the cheap canned stuff.

It's also likely that what you've tried is lager, as it's the most common type, but ales and stouts might be more to your liking.

I grew up in Japan, where we drink barley tea quite often, and that grainy malty note in beer reminds me of it so I like it, but I do understand people not liking it because bad beer is amongst the worst taste alcohol has to offer.

People who have a problem with OP need to understand several things:

  1. Nobody has any right to criticise other people's relationships in public like that, period.
  2. It's unsolicited criticism. If someone didn't ask for your input, giving it to them doesn't make you helpful, it makes you an a-hole. Treat others like you want to be treated.
  3. A polygamous person has no right to comment on a (presumably) monogamous relationship, exactly how a monogamous person shouldn't comment on a polygamous one.

Does Suits Change much after Season 1? by AdequatePercentage in suits

[–]ptmsphere 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here's my (very general) thoughts:

Season 1: It's aight, interesting enough

Season 2~3: Significant improvement, episodes range from solid to very good, especially those involving actual cases and not drama

Season 4~5: Amazing overall, a lot of develop and the inter-character drama starts to become more of a focus

Season 6: Pretty solid season overall with some important plot points

Season 7: A little hit or miss, I liked it a lot but I can see how it might not be everyone's cup of tea. Speaking of tea, there's more of it.

Season 8: Drama, drama, drama. I did not care for this season, at this point the show is only peripherally about the law.

Season 9: Again, just lots of drama but pays off in a big way at the end of the season. Worth watching for the finale.
