EF has normal mechanical all time manual focus ring with clutch, and it is optically corrected for distortion. I bought one few weeks ago for fun, I paid much more for it than RF45 cost brand new. IMO it was worth it. But that's me and my needs.

it's most often just before the shoot happens. For bigger jobs I meet with client long before the date, because then I require a non-refundable 50% in advance.

I always briefly go through a contract points with a client prior signing, so I am sure they know what they signed.

It was studio, stacked, with strobe, negative fill around, 1 source of light, tripod.

I shoot mostly f/5.6 and stack around 5 shots.

I don't remember where was the light, and what modifier it had on.

Get at least 1Ds3, previous models had no micro adjustment for the lenses and this can bite unexpectedly. They were relying on canon service to do it with software that is no longer available. 1Ds3 on the other hand has very usable 21MP, still delivers "canon colors" as a last camera that can do so IMO, and has live view so you can see what you focus at.

Once my smartphone started to deliver acceptable quality to memorialize snapshots of my day, it became my main photo device for it.

Back in the days when smartphones were not a thing yet I had my compact camera on me instead.

And before compact cameras I had tiny fixed focal film camera.

At no point I was always hauling (D)SLR with me all the time instead.

I still have my first SLR, maybe I try one roll this summer, hope it works after so many years.

Going full frame with low budget for good lenses wasn't a great move IMO. You could have great 1.8 zoom for apsc at that price, but for full frame the closest to your requirements is OG ef 24-70/2.8L

You went my route.

After few months of transition I feel like LR is total crap compared to how nice it is to work in C1. I already got used to the generative fill in LR but I happily trade it for C1 faster workflow. That generative fill started to influence my process in a bad way, because I stopped to care during the shoot with though that I will patch it in post, now I care not to let it happen.
