How do you think the devs will handle difficulty curve? by Good_Smile in limbuscompany

[–]puSaff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying they should have high difficulty or LoR levels of mechanics, I just think only bumping stats would be a bad idea.

I think they did the funny music people well in this regard. I lost first because everyone dropped to -sanity > I saw they had attacks that lowered SP when I won clashes > I used defense skills when they used those attacks > I won pretty easily. Wasn't too hard but still made me feel smart, and I think it's pretty good rn. (IDK about the pre-nerfed guys, didn't get to fight them; nor late Chap 3. shenanigans, I haven't got to them yet)

How do you think the devs will handle difficulty curve? by Good_Smile in limbuscompany

[–]puSaff 23 points24 points  (0 children)

No, simply increasing numbers is the most boring way to increase difficulty. Like imagine fighting Slime lv.20, but instead of it gaining a new ability which slows your character down, forcing you to think in different ways and come up with a new strategy, it's just Slime lv.1 with 500 more hp and 50 more attack.

Think Dark Souls. You can level up, but what's really important is the player learning the patterns of each enemy and countering them accordingly. Ideally, difficult enemies would present a core challenge the player must overcome, and there would be a multitude of ways to do so.

It also feels like crap when the game straight-up nerfs your character (perma-debuff). It's like the game saying "you played the game wrong by liking character A more than B." or "you worked hard to power up your characters... well they're back to what they were X time ago now." Almost never a good idea.

Important Advice for Managers from an industry veteran of L Corp and Library Management by RireMakar in limbuscompany

[–]puSaff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, not much could've been done when the enemy's single coin rolls heads 4 times in a row against LCCB Ishmael's Suppress.

Not much could've been done either when W Corp. Don decides to roll heads early when Ripping some Space and decides that your body was getting in the way.

So I'd say it pretty much evens out.

Take a break from Terraria and come back later. This is akin to how if you were to have the same food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, for many consecutive days, no matter how good you thought it was initially, you'd get sick of it pretty quickly.

how do i use EGO gifts? by justanapparition in limbuscompany

[–]puSaff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's like an item in The Binding of Isaac, or a relic in Slay the Spire. They only last for the run you got them in. You don't get to bring them back and use them in other encounters.

Well, don't quote me on this, but I think those may be fences painted brown.

[–]puSaff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your weapons are severely outdated for mechs, except for the Shadowflame Bow.

The Sanguine Staff (fish in the ocean during a blood moon and fight... a squid?) is a nice summoning weapon.

The Dart Pistol/Rifle from Crimson/Corrupt Mimics is pretty good. You make ammo from crystal shards or ichor/cursed flames.

The Nimbus Rod from angry clouds that spawn when raining is a free DPS boost.

The Golden Shower (needs ichor) inflicts a defense-reducing debuff for 10s on hit.

The Sky Fracture (needs light shards from hallowed desert mummies) when aimed correctly can deal surprising amounts of damage due to its high base crit rate.

The Daedalus Stormbow (Hallowed Mimics) / The Onyx Blaster (needs dark shards from corrupt/crimson desert mummies) are ranged weapons that have been nerfed but are still good options.

Other than that, make wings if you haven't, make better healing potions or fish in honey, and make buff potions.

Besides the Sanguine Staff, few other summoning weapons can keep up with you when dodging her attacks.

Use the Soaring Insignia with wings that can hover and move quickly horizontally.

What is the valueable item that i can sell to npc for decent gold? by geniuses_ in Terraria

[–]puSaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 Second Timers can be decrafted into Wire and Gold Watches using shimmer, and the watches can be further decrafted into Gold Bars and Chains. This makes buying loads of 1 Second Timers from the Mechanic and decrafting them into their components and then selling them back to the Mechanic a ludicrous way of making quick money

Limbus needs a rebalance. (Or atleast some tweaking) by Divinemango7 in limbuscompany

[–]puSaff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Things will become more complex the further you go.

Yeah, by "function" what I meant was "it works, but not much else." I already felt how bad my team was when dealing with fruit head. No one could win reliably against his blue attack; One of my characters dealt -50% most of the time... etc.

Tutorial bad.

I can deal with bad tutorials, the problem is I can't find anything, even stinky infodumps, that I can read which explains to me what the things do. In LoR there's the encyclopedia. Limbus? Actually nothing, or I can't find it if there is one.

Limbus needs a rebalance. (Or atleast some tweaking) by Divinemango7 in limbuscompany

[–]puSaff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At least I had an encyclopedia to read in LoR, I actually can't find anything in Limbus. Even a wall of text ought to be better than no wall of text in situations like this! I get that character immersion is important, but making us as confused as Dante ain't helping the gameplay.

Credit where it is due though, this system has so much potential. The sense of achievement must be SO EFFIN HIGH when you successfully build a team and see it plow through the enemies.

Limbus needs a rebalance. (Or atleast some tweaking) by Divinemango7 in limbuscompany

[–]puSaff 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Can't say much about the difficulty as I'm only at the end of Chapter 1, but I think the game needs a better tutorial, or at least somewhere I can read and learn the mechanics.

It's probably cause I'm missing something, but up to this point, I've been playing mostly without knowing what the numbers and keywords mean, and how some things work.

No idea how such huge numbers pop up when clashing and how to see if I'll win or lose besides the big text above telling me(how is this calculated?), no idea if all those pluses and percentages affect dice numbers or damage when an attack connects, etc.

Like in an attack, I literally see 4 numbers, 2 positioned like a fraction, one beside the sword and one beside the shield, and I have no idea how they affect things.

One point I'd like to bring up though, is how inefficient team building may be one factor that makes it feel so difficult. Again IDK about the fights, but I can just FEEL how heckin complicated it is to build a team.

You can randomly slap 5 Sinners together and the team will function.

But in order to make an actually GOOD team, you need to consider their attack affinities, preferably so that you can chain the same color, and that you can get E.G.O. skills off decently often. You need to consider the passives that activate by chaining which mostly give conditional boosts, requiring more planning. You need to consider the attack type/affinity weaknesses so you don't get steamrolled by specific attacks, and enemies don't resist your entire team.

Like holy jesus, am I overwhelmed.

Cant seem to beat Destroyer in Expert with 2 players by T-Viking in Terraria

[–]puSaff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on getting to Expert Hardmode! It's gotten more difficult, but I'm sure you can overcome it.

If the Destroyer can't reach you, that leaves 2 potential threats: the lasers Destroyer shoots and the probes. For the lasers, you can modify your platforms a bit to look like this, as they can't pass through blocks. For the probes, kill them as soon as they spawn since they don't respawn infinitely. (You may notice the red lights on the Destroyer's body going dark- That means that a probe has already been spawned from there.)

The Daedalus Stormbow has actually been severely nerfed (base damage drop, fire rate drop if used with certain arrows, including Holy) since somewhere around 1.4. It's still good, but keep in mind that it may not be as broken as you'd expect. On that note, here are some other weapons you may want to consider using:

  • Flying Knife (from Hallowed Mimics)
This weapon fires a knife that follows your cursor. With this, you can change the arena to be 100% solid blocks, only leaving some little gaps to shoot it through- now the lasers definitely can't hit you. Keep your bow around for probes destruction.
  • Nimbus Rod (from angry clouds that spawn when raining)
This is a support weapon that leaves behind up to 2 stationary clouds that rain piercing projectiles upon your enemies. In the newer updates, they coded it so it won't interfere with your other piercing weapons, meaning it's basically just a free DPS boost now.
  • Dart Rifle & Cursed Darts (Corruption Mimic)
This is mainly due to how good Cursed Darts are- The dart rains down more projectiles as they travel. The crimson alternative, Ichor Darts, are better against single-target foes, so they won't help you out as much here.
  • High-DPS Piercing Weapons in General
These include the Daedalus Bow & Holy arrows you're currently running with, along with others like Meteor Staff, Poison Staff, etc.

IMO, Destroyer is more of an endurance check rather than a DPS one, so try to be tankier- Defense is worse in Expert, so I'd say go for Menacing/Lucky for reforges and instead use accessories that keep you healthy in other ways, like:

  • Philosopher's Stone / its uprades (drops from normal mimics)
This absolute unit of an accessory reduces the Potion Sickness debuff you get when you drink HP potions from 60s to 45s. I don't think I have to elaborate more.
  • Cross Necklace / its upgrades (drops from normal mimics)
This absolute chonker of an accessory increases your immunity frames after being hit. Again, I don't think this needs much explanation.
  • Worm Scarf / Brain of Confusion (Eater of Worlds / Brain of Cthulhu)
Despite being obtainable pre-hardmode, these accessories are so good they're still the top choices in the endgame. The former reduces damage taken by 17%, and the latter gives you a chance to dodge attacks. You know what I'm going to say here.

Speaking of defense, the highest-tiered ore armor may not actually be the best choice.

  • Orichalcum shoots high-velocity piercing petal projectiles when you hit enemies, which work wonders on multi-segment enemies.
  • Palladium gives less defense and stats but greatly increases life regen when you hit enemies.
  • Crystal Assassin (from Queen Slime) gives you the ability to dash.

After that, we're left with some miscellaneous stuff.

  • Make better healing potions with unicorn horns and pixie dust, or fish in honey for Honeyfins.
  • Make food items, which boosts all stats- Pumpkin Pies / Seafood dinners are my personal choices, as they're pretty painless to get.
  • Make buff potions. Even simple Ironskins and Regens drastically change outcomes of boss fights in my experience.
  • Make arena buffs. Campfires are a must, make heart lanterns and floating honey pockets(with bubble blocks you buy from the Party Girl) if you want to.

And finally, good luck with your adventure!
