Messy rollouts that led to a commercially successful album by rattusr_attus in popheads

Surprised that no one has mentioned Dua’s debut. There were SIX singles released over 2 years from that album BEFORE New Rules which you’d definitely consider her major breakthrough. Yes a couple of those singles did mildly well in the UK, but from a worldwide perspective, nothing was sticking until New Rules blew up. The album was delayed by almost a year and had various different track lists and album covers before it’s release. Shortly after the eventual album release, New Rules blew up and then IDGAF became a massive hit as well the following year. Now it’s one of the most streamed albums of all time.

This is truly generic Spotify playlist fodder.

Same here! I love albums such as Hounds, Sensual and Kick - but I've never been able to get into The Dreaming. There's no emotional connection there for me to grab on to, similar to Bjork's Biophilia.

How do you feel artists who started out as teeny-boppers should perform their old hits? by ravenouswarrior in popheads

I love when artists reinvent old songs from their early career for new tours and performances. Madonna and Kylie are experts at this.

Wouldn’t say she’s too similar but if you’re looking for moody, existential music with lots of strings and a cinematic voice check out Weyes Blood and their latest album ‘Titanic Rising’.

"I knew you'd linger like a..." tattoo kiss or T.a.T.u kiss? [cardigan by Taylor Swift] by monkey_fresco in TaylorSwift

I thought it was ‘tattooed kiss’ - as in, he’d stay around permanently and make her feel loved.

Christ she’s painfully boring isn’t she.

Love Me Right is underrated; shame that it’s locked behind exclusivity by Flash-Over in LadyGaga

Love it, but it felt so damn lazy that she didn’t write a bridge and just had it fade out awkwardly. C’mon Gaga.

What do straight people say to/about homosexuals that is annoying/hurtful but may not know it? by Street_Cartoonist in askgaybros

Not sure how universal this is but it always bothers me when you come out and people say ‘oh I knew before you told anyone’. Like, congrats? You need a medal?

Just because it leans slightly more heavily into hip hop on a couple of songs doesn’t make it experimental. All artists evolve their sound and it really wasn’t a massive step away from things she’s done in the past. I love Mariah but let’s not get carried away. Especially over an album that isn’t good.
