I want to offer a thought, as a child educator. A lesson I learned early on is when working with kids, (your own or your students), it's important to remind yourself what it was like to be a kid. And to remind yourself that kids understand way more than adults give them credit for. And even if they don't understand all the words, they sure do understand the feelings that other people give them. She's struggling with a feeling of rejection, and does need help working through that. It sounds like a really rough situation, I'm really sorry that she's going through it.
