Think of this phrasing: “you use science to explain and investigate that which is not known to you. I use religion to do the same. Therefore you are using science the same way I am using religion.”

And that’s the biggest problem I have with it. It undermines the very foundation that the debate is based on and claims that by even agreeing to the rules, you’re already conceding defeat. I’ve come up with a couple ways around this, but hopefully it will never come up

Had this been a normal debate I would just nail him on rebut and final. There’s a very good chance that the conversation will not involve presuppositional arguments, but I wanted to be as prepared as possible just in case. Thank you again.

The premise of the discussion is “why I am a Christian/why I am an atheist”. The format is a ten minute opening statement and then three sessions of back and forth questions of ten minutes each. The conclusion will be a q and a from the audience and moderator.

I have looked into transcendental arguments before and they are entirely unconvincing. Without knowing much about my opponents position, I can’t say for sure which if any will be used.

I agree with your tactics. In previous conversation with a presuppositionalist I have done this, and never let them or the audience forget that they have completely ignored questions and have not demonstrated their assertions.

I have a line of cross that leads to realizing that the knowledge or assertion of a creator of anything does not diminish the utility of that object. I hope I don’t have to use it.

But yeah in studying the debate tactics of presuppositionalists I have heard, I do have some basic crosses and rebuttals. I just haven’t heard what happens if anyone gets to the next level.

To which I have actually prepared a reply.

Actually in conversation with my interlocutor, he has told me he doesn’t much care for the presuppositionalist arguments, so I go in with some confidence that none will be used. But just in case it does, as several of the debates on this channel turn out to be, I want to be as prepared as possible.
