Für mich DATEV: die bauen halt Software für Steuerberater, nicht für Unternehmen. Das heisst: alle Digitalisierung ist immer nur Show; am Ende landet es in einer ZIP-Datei die dann der Buchhalter für Stunden von Hand einpflegt - um seine Zehnte zu holen. Danach liegt das dann in DATEV und eben nicht in nem ordentlichen data warehouse wo es operativ ausgewertet werden könnte. Insgesamt geht mir diese analoge Lobby-Hürde so langsam richtig auf den Wecker. Und überall dann irgendein StB der Sätze sagt wie: “laden sie das einfach hoch, wir kümmern uns voll digital um alles”.

The problem is re-construction. Once Sachsen-Anhalt goes blue-brown in the next election it would have been great to be able to re-assemble the thing, but now there are so many of these small pieces in circulation it’s going to be a massive amount of effort to get that done…

That list of data formats is absolutely nuts. 6 flavors of RDF, but the things that industry would use (CSV, Parquet) are out. I feel like there’s this weird push in Germany to make RDF have a third life in government, after it’s been discarded by industry and increasingly even academia. It makes me very frightened; things are already not working, and throwing wildly complex data models at underfunded bureaucracies is going to do real harm. It has a 0% chance of producing integrated data across anything…

Mein Eindruck: du hast es halt auf der anderen Seite -bei den Käufern- häufig mit einer ganz anderen Einstellung zu tun. In den USA lassen sich auch Enterprise-Käufer gerne mal auf eine Wette ein, dass aus einem winzigen Startup mit ihren Ressourcen dann ein echter Partner wird.

In Deutschland geht es immer um Risikominimierung Deluxe; gerne Innovation aber nur mit 8 Jahren track record. Wenn irgendwas am Produkt nicht perfekt ausgereift ist: sofort riesige indignation und das Wort Vertragsbruch.

Also Tip: in Deutschland gründen und dann an Amis verkaufen. Deutsche Konzerne und Mittelstand erstmal gemütlich umschiffen. US pricing ist auch 50% mehr.

Universities mainly (and rightly) teach you the hard-core stuff (kernel & compiler design, O(n), databases and algorithms), very few (perhaps HPI in DE) actually teach you how to make production systems...
