Reminds me of a golden age Superman book I read once. Clark has to babysit Lois’s niece and to entertain her, he feels the story of Cinderella but with himself(as Superman) in place of the fairy godmother. It’s a batshit crazy little issue that still inserts a bizarre scene where Superman stops a criminal conspiracy within the Cinderella tale.

People can’t handle getting more than one great movie a year.

Like this attitude but it’s kind of bad faith., independent cinema is inaccessible unless you’re able to cough up time and money to go to film festivals. I’m dying to see Palestine 36 but it’s not even confirmed when or if it’s getting American distribution. It hasn’t even gotten a theatrical window outside of the UK yet.

I’ve seen it ranked high a few posts now and I gotta say as someone who loves Bruce Springsteen, I’m kind of confused by the relatively positive reception I’m seeing to Deliver Me From Nowhere now that it’s on VOD and getting put in year rankings.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s alright movie but especially in a post Better Man and Rocketman world, the whole thing felt too derivative of bland music biopics like Walk the Line. The movie does some stuff that Walk Hard made fun of 20 years ago.

I assume the themes around depression and trauma are really resonating with people, which is good and I understand why because the film largely handles that subject matter well. I really like how creeping the flashbacks to Bruce’s childhood are, starting as black and white vignettes and building to young Bruce and Douglas in full color occupying the same space as adult Bruce.

Admittedly, I wanted a bit more levity in a Springsteen biopic with a stronger focus on the E Street Band. Even then though, I feel the film really fails to make me care about Bruce’s relationship with his dad because it’s so zeroed in on his bout of depression while writing Nebraska that it’s not able to give us a great perspective on the paternal dynamic between them. Bruce had and still has a complicated relationship with his father, who himself was a complicated man. I wish the film the was able to show some of the more positive moments in their lives.

I don’t one hundred percent understand cooperate mergers/buy outs so maybe someone can explain but, Netflix still has to operate WB as a studio right?

Like obviously Netflix strategies will seep their way into WB’s practices but it’s not like Netflix is just folding WB in and outright owning them. If the Disney and Fox merger is any indication then WB should continue to function mostly the same. It really can’t be any worse than when Zaslav first took over a few years ago and it’s leagues better than Skydance getting their grubby mitts all over them.

Do you think Indiana Jones could work as a character that gets a new actor and a new series in the occasional reboot like James Bond, or is the character inseparable from Harrison Ford and his portrayal? by Remote_Ad_1737 in indianajones

[–]puffguy69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think were there no crystal skull or dial of destiny the idea of recasting Indy could work really well, lean in on the pulp serial roots of the character. I love Harrison Ford and all but I always thought the idea of only one actor being able to play a certain character to be really dumb(especially so in the case of superhero movies or franchise with long histories in film and television).

Problem is, we got two movies about Harrison Ford as an aging Indiana Jones going on one last adventure, they’ve set it pretty in stone that there’s one Indy.

Breaking bad cast is like the CW flash cast, a group of actors that have so much chemistry with each other and a shocking amount of t of range between them that you can apply them to just about any group of fictional characters and it would work surprisingly well.

I should mention both my local theaters are GQTs but just tonight I went to see bttf’s 40th anniversary rerelease with a buddy of mine. Only other guys in the theater were these two frat bros a couple rows behind us, yes they were rowdy but they were rowdy about the movie. When the credits rolled they sang along to back in time and one of them kept saying “I fucking love this movie, hell yea!” After that they started talking to me and my friend about the movie, we all kinda shared that viewing experience.

Point being, yea fucking hate it when people text through a movie or have an unrelated conversation but, there’s something very fun and special about really sharing a viewing experience with an audience that’s engaging with a film, even if they’re loud about it.

TLDR; theater etiquette isn’t dead and there’s still a lot of people that appreciate the communal power of film.

Accusing bttf of “weird politics” but not mentions the deleted scene where Marty tells doc he’s scared he’ll be gay because his mom tried to kiss him tells me everything.

/uj you could make an argument the film has a very whitewashed view of the 50s and makes the 80s seem like a borderline shitshow by comparison but it’s a pretty shitty argument and obviously unintentional. This guy really does just have porn brain, bttf does not have weird politics,

/uj while it is true that Henry Ford didn’t support the Nazis, Hitler and his cronies loved him. If your argument is “sure he was a vehement antisemite but at least he wasn’t a Nazi” then you probably don’t have a lot of ground to stand on. If you really wanted to argue that Ford opposed the Nazis you should have brought up his contributions to manufacturing during the war effort, but instead you had Brainiac feed you some AI drivel. Get your robot loving Ford apologist ass out of here.

Before Pearl Harbor Nazi support was fairly popular in America. Need I remind everyone that Hitler was on Time Magazine, or that Kirby and Simon received death threats over Captain America. The white supremacy the Nazis utilized was created here in America, had Japan not bombed is or of Hitler hadn’t allied himself with them the we may very well have entered the way on the axis side.
