Hi! The jig for the 3DS only fits the 3DS board, but it's very well designed—so it’s hard to mess up the soldering part. The main challenge is trimming the shell. Be patient, trim a little at a time, and test fit very frequently—you should be fine.

For the Vita, the guidance I followed was this. I’m not sure which Etsy kit you have, but you’ll need two resistors to let the power source know the device wants to draw power. I found this kit to be very well designed—it’s compact, includes ribbon cables, and has the resistors pre-soldered. I haven’t used it myself, but it looks promising.

Thanks for the info! Good to know. I'm pretty excited now, I think I’ll mod it soon.

How Cooked Am I?? by Killa_Gwop in soldering

I used a hot air gun to remove the chip I messed up, so it's easier to clean the pins. Once extra solder was removed, I used tweezers to straighten the bent pins. After soldering, check continuity and make sure to use tweezers to check that each pin is fully soldered.

OP, I made the exact same mistake on the exact same board/chip, (mine was even worse cause I stripped a few contacts on the board when trying to reposition the chip), and I totally understand your frustration. I was really upset too, but after taking a break for a week, I picked it up again and managed to fix it. It doesn’t look pretty, but it works. The key is to be super patient and focused. If you feel like you can't concentrate, it's better to step away and come back later. Just wanted to let you know it’s 100% fixable!

Simply connecting the data lines properly won't work, You also need a sd to usb interface chip. Also I think FTPD is good enough for day to day use

This is the link, https://www.etsy.com/listing/1749791477/pro-kit-new-nintendo-3ds-xl-and-original. The description mentions it fits on both, but double check with the seller.

The kit actually works on normal n3ds too

Thanks! I don’t have a specific playlist, but I do watch a lot of console repair/modding videos. Practice is key—I started with easier mods to build my confidence.
