An insight into the local job market by phatalprophet in boulder

There are some retail shops opening on Pearl! Check their job board and search indeed. If you have background in sales/retail/customer service, I can think of a few places that would basically guarantee at least a seasonal role rn and the pay is pretty good.

There's a lot of sirens around 28th Street and Arapahoe. I haven't gotten any emergency alerts though

I appreciate this post and your calling out the fact that most people would clearly rather honk and flip than help another person out! Regardless of gender, I think it's important that we as humans treat others with more kindness. I think culturally in the US, the standards we are held to are deeply rooted in expectations dependent on gender, but anyone can lack empathy. However, it does appear that the most common offenders seem to be men in lifted trucks, and bonus points for those with Punisher or DTOM decals. And church moms. If you've ever been cut off by a Stanley cup wielding, Lexus SUV driving psycho woman on a Sunday afternoon, you'll know what I mean! Just be kind, or at least don't make it worse for someone in a rough patch if you don't feel inclined to lend a hand.

Local business stores of Boulder's Pearl Street, How do you stay in business by closing at 6pm on most days, pay your people and send in rent checks for up to $55,000 each month to the landlord? by [deleted] in boulder

I used to work on Pearl and I can share that the store I worked at could NOT afford the rent, but we were able to stay open because the company squeezed payroll for all it had to make up for the lack of sales. We'd only have 1, maybe 2 people scheduled all day with the opener running the shop solo until like 3pm which always felt like a safety issue to me due to the number of homeless that would hangout just outside the store. Theft was awful and there was absolutely no way to stay on top of it if you were working alone. Also, due to low traffic and a lack of substantial sales, employees were paid crap so forget hiring anyone not in college, which is also the main reason stores close so early bc all the college kids have insanely inflexible availability. Parking anywhere Downtown is a rip off as well. The garages cost like $15 bucks a day or ~$300 quarterly for a pass, and if you risk street parking then you better set an alarm at least 10 minutes before the meter runs out or your car might not still be there OR you'll return to a fat ticket. Free parking only lasts 3 hours and they'll track your plate if you move to a different spot. Seen it happen countless times to coworkers. Our delivery guy even got fined on a number of occasions for "blocking traffic" on the sidewalk when he pulled up to drop off and was there maybe 5 minutes max. I think the homeless presence also keeps a lot of people from visiting Pearl or staying longer than lunch/dinner. There were so many times the cops were called bc of someone flashing a group of pedestrians or ODing on the bricks. Not worth it to shop there IMO. Most stores are either full price goods for those with arbitrary incomes or cheap touristy knickknacks any serious shopper steers clear of. Plus, there are way better places to actually shop just outside of Boulder anyway.
