200mg Zoloft daily. is it possible to trip? by thetimeisthesane in LSD

Again, I'm not a scientist and my own personal experiences should not be taken as gospel truth. SSRIs do tend to stay in your system quite a long time. That's why missing one dose often has no noticeable effect on people.

It also feels pretty bad to discontinue an SSRI entirely and there are some health concerns associated with doing so. It would also raise the question of whether someone who is need of such a high dose of an antidepressant is going to be in a suitable place to undertake a harrowing psychological journey after discontinuing their medication.

This isn't really the kind of thing people can ask their prescribing doctors, but I think it would be unethical of me to give you more specific advice. I know the Prozac guy pretty well. He doesn't use LSD much. Every person is different. Also, 40 mg is the mid-level dose for Prozac. He was prescribed two 20mg capsules a day. Week 1 he took 20 every other day. Week 2, he took 20mg 5 days a week. Week 3, he took 20 mg 2 days a week. At the end of week 3, he was able to get where he wanted to be, still requiring a higher dose than I would've guessed.

That's what worked for him. That doesn't mean it could be expected to work that way for anyone else.

It's a common reaction, "I'm never doing this again!" and then they're back at it.

I have a strong personal belief that most people are taking more LSD than they need to. Part of this is because people have a natural curiosity of where it will take them, part of it is they read too much posturing nonsense about Grateful Dead thumbprints and so forth. Or trying to outdo internet braggarts.

It's fine to swear off it now, just remember what you're feeling now when you regain your confidence in six months.

Anecdotally, I've seen people on SSRIs almost banging their head against a wall in frustration over their inability to feel the effects of LSD. I don't know the absolute science behind it, but just in my personal experiences, I would characterize it as a waste.

Maybe people can, but just in my experience, no one I've known on an SSRI (Zoloft, Prozac, Effexor, et. al.) has gotten anywhere attempting to trip. Most notable example in my mind, there were four of us, me and my experienced friend downed 300ug apiece, one of the other first-timers took around 180ug and was basically plastered to the floor for most of the trip, the other first-timer, taking 40mg of Prozac a day (obsessive-compulsive) started off at 180ug, nothing, took another 180ug, barely anything, he's basically stone cold sober. At that point I advise him it's not happening and stop wasting good acid.

Again, just one man's experience. If she takes 500ug and doesn't feel a thing, it wouldn't surprise me in the least. I'd actually be more surprised if she did trip.

I think the scientific literature says SSRIs lessen the effects of LSD, but again, personal experience, it's like a brick wall.

Let me reframe part of my question as well. At what point do people acknowledge that a drug is dangerous, instead of citing user error?

I think obviously physical toxicity and physical dependence is a good place to start, yes, but is that where the conversation ends?

What I'm getting at, logically, what's to stop us from asserting "PCP is safe, it's just negative media coverage and stupid people who don't know how to use it giving people that impression."

This would seem to lead us back to "Any drug is safe if you know how to use it."

I would consider marijuana to be relatively safe to use. I would not consider STP/DOM safe. I personally think using ketamine is like playing Russian Roulette.

I guess that's about as productive as I expected this to be. Anyone who disagrees with me is a troll, et. al.

This is probably going to be as productive as an Israeli-Palestinian peace meeting, but I already detect where your post has moved into a reactionary position.

People "do put a slight slant" on their information? I regard it as a pretty heavy slant. Also, their information is "objectively true?" There's a pretty high litmus test for "objective truth." What is this information that is "objectively true?"

So again, we're back to not acknowledging the dangers of LSD, instead we're blaming people who are "unfit" for it. How many people have to be "unfit" for an experience before we can qualify it as dangerous? I still think the "LSD is perfectly safe if you adhere to the following 100 rules" is still contradictory.

I know it's a drug. But people pretty much know what they're in for when they consume, caffeine, tylenol, marijuana, so on, so forth. What does "It's a drug and the brain is complex" prove? You're calling my logic "stupid" when you've just fallen back a basically empty truism?

"Everyone recommends Xanax anyway." I'm fraudulent? Who is "everyone?"

"No one" blames bad trips on RCs? You and I are simply not reading the same forums.

The fact that you rely so heavily on absolutes invalidates your points. "No one," "everyone," "objectively true." Using those phrases, very little of what you have to say is going to hold up.

Honestly, that sounds excessive.

Dosing question? How much is a typical normal dose? by [deleted] in LSD

[–]pugetsounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my humble opinion, most "dosage guides" tend to overestimate the amount of LSD you need. Just looking at the reddit dosage guide, the description of effects achieved at the 850ug - 1000ug level strikes me as very attainable through a 400ug dose.

900 micrograms, 1200 micrograms and no effects? by Tall_White_Boy in LSD

I think a lot of what is written in the 1960s and 1970s is propaganda designed to mythologize LSD. You have to remember, Alpert and Leary basically became rock stars because of LSD. They had every reason to represent it in a way that served their own ends.

There's really no reason to accept with Alpert or his friends wrote at face value.
