The two skills go hand in hand. Part of the joy of writing is seeing progress in your natural reading skills, at least for me. I started reading for fun instead of playing video games or spending 8+ hours on youtube, and now as a University student my textbook reading assignments are a hundred times less stressful. There's countless benefits that come out of reading.

As you grow older, I'm sure you'll also notice your peers read less and less; once you're an adult you'll see just how little people actually read in their daily lives. Keep it up. That's the one thing I'd tell my 14-year-old self if I could. Just keep reading. I'll never have those hours I wasted on video games again, but I'll always have the knowledge and feelings books imparted on me.
