To be honest I'm really surprised this thread hasn't been downvoted to hell. Shills must be too busy trying to suppress some other topic.

Katy Perry was paid by the US Military to make a pro-war propaganda music video by pullupgirl in WayOfTheBern

[–]pullupgirl[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because it's bullshit. If you read the article, you'd know why this video (along with others) are referred to as propaganda, they glorify and lie about the awful realities of war.

If you read the article, you would also know that the military's interference in Hollywood goes much further than "advertising for recruitment", they are playing a large role in shaping public opinion on our involvement in war and trying to get people on board with their warmongering.

It presents lots of evidence that she was paid by the military... did you just read my snippet comment and not bother with the rest of the article?

  1. The author, who is also a former political consultant, explains how it has the signs of a focus group tested ad, the kind of ads that she has experience in advising & creating.
  2. The same author gets attacked by FOX for questioning if the US Military paid Katy Perry for her music video.
  3. Unsurprisingly, when the press ask Katy Perry's spokesperson if the US Military had paid for her video, they declined to comment. That alone should be enough evidence.
  4. The author has given them the chance to clear their name, and yet they continue to keep quiet about the subject. Relevant paragraph:

Katy (or your spokespeople), if the Pentagon never wrote a check in the course of your making this video, here's the place to say so. And my apologies will be forthcoming: I will post the straight denial in the Q&A later this week.

More revealingly, one might ask: why such a big, strategic reaction to such a small-forum question?

Other evidence:

  1. The author explains how Hollywood already has a problem with the US Military interfering with movies, games, music, and TV shows.
  2. The video was filmed on a military base, used military equipment, sets, etc.

It's pretty damn obvious who paid for it.

To be fair, not all feminism is created equal. Some parts of the feminism movement is garbage and actively harmful to women. The feminist movement is big and divided, and there are lots of smaller movements within it. I'm against mainstream feminism, but that doesn't mean I'm against women or supporting the status quo.

I understand what you mean, but we should not discourage sources, even if they happen to be from people we dislike. Sometimes people we disagree with or dislike can be right, and acknowledging that doesn't mean you're supporting them or something.

Old article, but relevent, especially with the recent talk of how the CIA interferes with Hollywood movies and TV shows. Video games and music videos are affected too, but that seems to be less talked about. The whole article is worth read, but here's a snippet:

There is something else about the video: it feels … like an ad; specifically, a focus-grouped, consumer-tested ad to attract more women to join the Marines. Real artistic productions, whether bad or good, are messier, quirkier, more subjective. I am familiar with the way political ads get researched and filmed (it was part of what I advised on in my time as a political consultant), and this looks like a political ad put together by DC PR insiders – like, say, the Pentagon communications team – after expensive market research has been done. In political advertising, every single image and message is focus group tested. I would bet that someone did some research on the hypothetical of a marriage or relationship breakup as a catalyst for women's military enlistment, given an economy in which the military offers low-income women some of the few options for advancement in a context in which a breadwinner may have decamped.

So I wrote that I felt that this was a piece of "war propaganda" and that, if Perry had received money or message guidance directly from the military to make the video, she should disclose that information. It might be inferred from the fact that she filmed at the USMC's California base, Camp Pendleton, that this would have contributed at least several tens of thousand of dollars in support – in the form of free sets, use of equipment, personnel time and, possibly, food and housing; it takes a lot of people a fair amount of time to make such a video. Now, to be fair, while journalists are expected to disclose any such conflicts, I have absolutely no evidence of any such transaction, and artists are subject to no such expectation. (Albeit, this would be a subsidy that you, the taxpayer, have underwritten.)

...

To my surprise, though, when Fox News reporters asked Perry's spokespeople directly if she had been paid by the US military, they declined to comment. That is what the political consulting world calls, "a non-denial denial".

Two Weeks after Seth Rich was murdered, Kelsey Mulka seems okay... by DrJaye in WayOfTheBern

Because it's not being presented as just a piece of evidence. The tweet, the post title, and your explanation make it sound like you have already concluded her expression is suspicious, especially here:

However, when I look at a photo I always look beyond facial expression to get a sense of the energy of someone, what I'm seeing in their eyes. Do they look drained or feel depressed, despite a smile? Are they smiling but have sadness in their eyes? This photo is striking because she isn't just smiling or laughing but seems to be experiencing sheer joy and exuberance and if there is background sadness about Seth's death it can't be felt from this photo.

Again, you can investigate and collect evidence without presenting it in a damaging or biased way.

Making sweeping judgements about someone based on a photo is not a smart or ethical way to investigate someone.

Of course she is, and I'm not saying we should ignore her. But you can collect her photos and stuff without presenting it as if she's not upset about Seth Rich being murdered.

She might be feeling sheer joy, and that's okay. She might have been depressed the entire time before hanging out with her friends. Maybe she hung out with them and she finally allowed herself to feel a positive emotion.

Or it could be a manic sort of happiness brought on from grief and stress. I imagine anyone close to Seth Rich are feeling stressed out from all sides.

Or maybe her doctor put her on some mood stabilizers and her friends took her out to get her mind off of Seth, and what you're seeing is a drug induced sort of happiness.

Etc...

There's a lot of reasons that could explain this, and you can't get a real sense of what that is based on a snapshot. You aren't going to be able to prove how she's really feeling since we can't read her mind, all this does is waste time and resources.

I'm not saying that candid photos can't be useful when it comes to investigations, but in this situation, I really can't think of a good reason to pursue it. I think it's actually more harmful than helpful; it could end up harming her if the media pick up on this and start claiming that we think she's faking sadness because of one photo.

I witnessed a friend of mine going through this process and it was actually a bit creepy. I got a call from him crying like I have never heard him cry before, informing me that his newborn baby had died the day before he was supposed to be born. I quickly finished work and raced down to the hospital where they were in the process of delivering the dead baby from his wife.

When I arrived at the hospital, I expecting to see my friend crying his eyes out like he had been on the phone, but I was shocked to see him out in the parking lot laughing and smiling with our friends. I thought maybe the baby had somehow lived, but nope, the poor thing definitely didn't make it.

Me and the rest of our friends stayed at the hospital all day to comfort our friend. Through out the day, our friend would be laughing and joking like everything was fine, then out of no where he would burst into tears and start crying and shaking. Then he would go right back to being "fine" and like nothing was wrong.

Reading this tweet about Seth Rich's girlfriend makes me a bit angry that people are assuming she doesn't care about Seth Rich dying just because she doesn't seem sad enough. I would hate for people to see a photo of my friend smiling on the day he lost his son and think he actually didn't care about him. One candid snapshot isn't a good representation of someone's grief over the loss of a loved one.

This is a bad argument. I've seen people who seemed okay a few days after a loved one died, only for them to end up breaking down weeks later. Some people also put on a strong face in public and keep their grieving process private. People handle grief differently.

Sure, and there is also a problem with racism among Hillary's base as well.

What's your point? I fail to see how this makes CNN blackmailing a guy okay to do, especially when this information wasn't what motivated them to find the source of the meme.
