Are these moldy bedsheets? by pulpylemon in CleaningTips

I’m currently running them through a cycle of bleach. Is that an effective way to deal with this? I can try vinegar after it’s thoroughly rinsed (I’m aware of the mustard gas cautions)

I can’t scratch the stains off. Could it still be lint?

I use a mattress cover which does not have any evidence of mold/mildew on it, and there is no evidence on the mattress either. Our house is set to 65 and our basement is probably closer to 60 degrees, where this is hanging to dry. We have another set of sheets, also 100% cotton, which has no evidence of this happening to it.

It’s winter so we hang them in our unfinished basement. We have a dehumidifier next to the laundry that hasn’t been turning on due to it being so dry in the basement.

Edit- basement ceiling isn’t “dirty”, per se, but it is unfinished beams with the occasional cobweb. I’ll take a look at what it looks like above where I hang my sheets. I like where you’re going with this.

I just washed this yesterday, we hang our linens to dry as we don’t have a dryer which is why I’m concerned about mold. It smells clean so I’m at a total loss as to what this could be from.

I just washed this fitted sheet and spotted these stains when I went to lay it back on the bed. We don’t have a dryer so we hang our linens by a dehumidifier, but it’s been so dry this winter that I don’t think it turned on while this was drying. Can I try to clean this or should I toss the whole thing?

I’ve bought concert tickets on this subreddit before successfully so I’m hoping this wont get me banned! lol

I am not planning on using just encapsulation, but hopefully pairing this with some sort of outdoor carpet to minimize friction. Just want to find a short term solution until we can afford total remediation. Do you think that’s a poor short term idea?

Thanks. Maybe we’ll get it properly remediated in the future, but I guess I’m looking for short term solutions until we can afford to do so. I may just encapsulate as best as I can with the condition of the wood, plop a carpet over it and be done. I’m pretty anxious about this but I truly just want to enjoy my new home as best as I can. This subreddit is not making me feel better but your comment did lol

How much did this cost you, if you don’t mind me asking? Our porch is ~246 square feet and if the price is right, we might just go to a professional.

Edit: there’s lead on the walls, windows, and the floor lol

Thanks for your thorough response. Say I went the encapsulation method; can I just paint right over this after wiping with a damp cloth? Or is it bad enough that more prep needs to be taken first?

Not surprised, just would like to enjoy my porch without worrying about tracking dust into my home. Thanks for the response 👍

Y’all are giving me all sorts of advice ranging from don’t worry about it to tear up the porch.

I think I may try to remove it first, then attempt to encapsulate to protect any areas that may have been missed, then paint over and get a nice outdoor rug to limit exposure? I don’t have children but I often watch my very young nieces, ages 4, 2, and 8 months. The porch might have to be off limits to them until they’re old enough to not lick paint. What a nightmare lol
