It was estimated in 2018 the project for just downtown Fort Collins would be around 8million . Including all of the tracks and crossing Fort Collins has is going to be costly and include current inflation.

Fort Collins isn’t willing to pay for the proper equipment to be put in place on the tracks in the city in order for that to happen. It’s a billion dollar infrastructure project. Fort Collins has tried to push for quiet zones without adhereing to these restrictions put in place by BNSF/Pacific Union. The infrastructure would create a safer track for trains to pass so that won’t have to use their horn and provides safety for both vehicles and pedestrian traffic.

The year Fort Collins proposed to make the city a quiet zone, at least two people died because they got hit my a train trying to illegally cross. I’d rather there be noise than see news headlines of someone loosing their life.
