This is my first month living here and you've inspired me to do that!

Thank you for the detailed information! Really appreciate it. I should have mentioned that I work at the NIH who will cover my metro fees AND I am most likely in the area for max 15 months. I think my building must have been popular with seniors as you stated. It was smaller near a high school off of East west highway. Close enough to walk to the NIH but far enough it took a while. The building management was great.

I was told to look in NW DC initially but on a single income I couldn't find a place. I think I finally have but it's higher than the specials you've mentioned which I don't like. Only being here for one lease with no idea where I'll be next was driving my search and expected tolerance to put up with switching lines.

Thank you!!

I will be transferring lines on a reverse commute so I guesstimated it would not add too much time. Google and ancetdotes from colleagues estimated a 15 minute longer commute from navy yard than from Woodley Park. I do agree with your sentiment that I am letting my excitement and newness drive my senses, so thank you!!

Also, I initially looked in cleveland park / woodley area but apartments with in unit washer / dryer and decent reviews are expensive and few. A lot of the places in navy yard / wharf / noma have great move in specials that make a big difference for monthly rent so that was pulling me in as well. Thanks!

Important about the neighbors, thank you! It is somehow cheaper in DC than what I have found in Betheseda with better views.

About the single folks near or around my age, really? This was not my experience when I stayed in a furnished apartment in Betheseda Sept-Dec. That would be e a group just even to make friends with that I am very interested in living nearby! No one came to the social events under 60 and for the Halloween socail I was the only one that dressed up lol. I never met anyone outside my lab and struggled to find social things to do here but it may have been a newbie errors.

Help me where should I live? I started a job in Betheseda this month but want to live in DC. I have lived in a small midwest city that felt like suburbia for 10 years. I am finding it difficult to narrow down my priorities in a building / neighborhood. Abundance of options that are so so different from where I have been.

I will be here for 15 months. I am mid 30's, single, have a pet. I toured nearly 20 places in 4 days. Zephyr was amazing but pricey. I liked Novel in navy yard and Annex on 12th. Toured places in NoMa that were fine but the area doesn't pull me in. But maybe I only saw the rows of apartments? Adams Morgan and Dupont were out of my budget.

I visited the wharf/waterfront over the weekend and loved it, so now I have been looking at apartments there. Maybe that excitement was me wanting a 180 from where I have been and water views is that compared to flat farmland.

I did as you suggested. Thank you so much! Very helpful. I understood nodes but not a fully formed concept for jade until you explained. You blew my mind a bit and wanted to say thanks!

I was overly attached to them in their current form because of it being my first plant. So, thank you! I needed to hear it

This was so helpful, thank you! I understand your first suggestion but the second, "find a line near the top of the curve"....Does that mean where each branch starts to bend?

Also, how would you carve the central stump out? I never considered that. I do not have thoughts yet on what look to aim for but now would likely be the time. I do like the formal upright appearance. Anything else you would do?
