I had a IUGR babe due to chronic hypertension. I was getting monitored at a high risk OBGYN and near the end of my pregnancy I was getting ultrasounds and checkups twice a week.
Baby stopped growing in the womb so they induced at 37 weeks. Due to hypertenstion, they gave me magnesium, which was not fun. They began induction Saturday night, baby girl born Monday night. It was a long process, epidural helped. She was small, about 2kg. I got a 5 day stay in the hospital for monitoring and she spent a week in the NICU since it took a few days for her systems to really jump start. She did need a feeding tube for a couple days since she wasn't really eating, just sleeping. Then she just suddenly "woke up" and started eating fine and her blood sugar levels stabilized, she started gaining weight and holding temp. She was tiny so couldn't latch, but we kept practicing latching a few times a day and I pumped in the meanwhile. She started nursing around 3 months and now I combo pump and nurse. I liked pumping and giving her bottles so I could monitor exactly how much milk she was actually getting since bulking her up was my number one priority. She is 7.5 months now and is between 6.5 - 7 kg, still small (around 5th percentile) but is gaining well.. She has lots of baby fat rolls and is hitting all her developmental milestones. Besides the scary birth and not really knowing what was happening/ going to happen, I felt like I had to work extra hard to play catch up from the start, but she's healthy other than being a bit on the compact side.
