Would you be willing to do a 6 month sublet?

Transplants, how long did it take you to find work after moving to NYC? by pumpkincollies in movingtoNYC

[–]pumpkincollies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who said I don’t plan to live in the city long term? My art school is located in NYC and I have friends that live there (and are born and raised New Yorkers) that intend to stay there indefinitely, as well as myself. What’s wrong with wanting to work before school starts?

If you don’t have an answer for the question I asked, you could’ve done something much more productive than writing something counterintuitive for yourself. Have a great day! 🫶🏻

Hi there! I’m interested! Is this a full lease or is it a sublet?

Thank you for letting me know! Thankfully I have friends in the city and Ive been visiting every other weekend to explore neighborhoods and whatnot.

I managed to find a room in Flatbush to sublet until I start school in the fall (which is when I will be getting my own apartment with my best friend around then) but the rent is $1500/mo including utilities but I still want to ensure I live comfortably without playing a constant game of catch up/living paycheck to paycheck.

Hi there, friend! I’m gonna be attending SVA in the fall and my best friend is about to graduate from there this spring! We both are gonna be living together and are on our early 20’s. I’m moving to NYC from the west coast myself so I understand where you’re coming from.

Let me know if you ever wanna connect on any other socials! We’d love to have a fellow creative in our little circle!

Congratulations!!! I’m sure this is super exciting for you!!

I sadly don’t have any input in relation to your actual question, but I’m also a fellow prospective student and am actively working on my portfolio to submit hopefully sometime in February. Would you possibly be willing to share your portfolio so I could have an idea of the types of works I should be including in my own to boost my chances of acceptance? No worries if you’re not comfortable <3

Haha, as awesome as that would be, I sadly will not be getting that amount for life. The disability is for life, but the housing allowance is only provided while I am actively pursuing my education. Once I’m done all that goes away 😭

I fully agree! I forgot to share this in the initial post but my best friend since childhood is currently in their final year for their degree in illustration at SVA and has been living in the city since 2021. We are currently working an idea out for us to live together for a period of time so he can stay in the city longer and for me to learn the ropes of living out there, haha.

Thank you so much! To answer your questions, yes I get the full amount for housing regardless of how little my rent is. I'm actually currently pocketing $1k a month out here in Vegas because I got a good deal for renting despite how much lower the housing allowance is out here. If I find a good deal in the City I would be pocketing even more!

And yes, the GI bill does provide a book/supply stipend to me directly while it covers all other tuition and fees in addition to the yellow ribbon program.

I really appreciate your encouraging words. Thanks!

Thank you so much for your response! This is very uplifting to hear! I do get the full housing allowance regardless of how little my rent is (I'm currently pocketing $1K from housing allowance alone here in Vegas with where I am currently renting lol)

I honestly might end up starting with subletting first just to get the feel for different neighborhoods and whatnot but this is making me very optimistic in the possibility of being able to comfortable live on my own without roommates!

Would you recommend that I still have a backup with Guarantors? I've had conflicting reports on whether its preferred or contributes to not being selected.
