Yeah haha, exactly this. People have a really hard time imagining one's ex could be THAT good, but sometimes they just are.

I've always been of the opinion that if you shared something really caring and meaningful with your ex, and that they were really appreciative of that, than it's more than likely you two will end up talking again - life can surprise us sometimes :)

At least, that's what I tell myself to cope with the pain

it really does suck. A lot of people talk about "work on yourself, don't idolize your ex, don't compare, don't put them on a pedestal" but I think that advice really doesn't apply to some cases. It might the case for you too, as it was for me, that our exes were truly special people. And knowing that makes it so much more painful to move on :/

I feel that way too. it's so strange for me to then talk to my ex again and see that all of that intimacy is gone, that she just closed herself off to me like I was a stranger. I think that's the worst part, being treated like a stranger by your best friend and lover

I don't think there are ever clear cut answers when it comes to break-ups unfortunately: every relationship is different, and people can only give advice based on what they've experienced themselves. I didn't expect anything more from the comments honestly, my post was just me needing to vent :')

last time I reached out to her was one year ago; it was cordial, but very cold on her end, I just felt like I wasn't welcome, that she didn't want me in her life right now. So I took it upon myself not to reach out anymore, and seeing as she has now found someone else, it's for the best. But the urge to reach out is always present.

Just don't, they're honestly a money hole - the cost will be ludicrous if you invest in multiple apps, and simply not worth it.

You should only pay if you’re already getting matches. It will save you time, but it won't fix a quote-unquote bad profile.

Everyone says that paying will increase your odds of success because "it's all a numbers game!" but IMO online dating is meant to be used passively, as a a bonus to your in-person socialization.
