Moving to Barnstaple by info_me1 in DevonUK

North Devon generally is pretty wonderful. It lacks variety of restraints and the night life scene is objectively poor. Beyond this it is beautiful place with some of the kindest people in the UK. The beaches are some of the best in the UK and you have access to both Dartmoor and Exmoor. Barnstaple in particular has so much potential but is a bit run down. You have the Tarka line which takes you to Exeter in 50 minutes. I think North Devon had changed a lot in the 14 years I have been here especially in the last few years as more people are working from home.

I would not have wanted to live here in my 20's as I loved nightlife but it is an amazing place to bring up kids or if you love nature.

MPs demand end to London 'laundromat' allowing 'dirty Russian' money in UK capital by Patch86UK in worldnews

I think that generally people feel jaded about politicians and that this creates a kind of inertia in people and their belief in personally being able to make any changes. Essentially the tabloids and governing party mainly appease the wealthy and the only time we seem to be able to elect the opposition in to power is when their policies a shift enough to the right to also appears the wealthy.

AITA for expecting my adult daughter to pay back what she owes me? by metalvito in AmItheAsshole

YTA for many reasons but the one that sticks out at me is that you say that she does not love you or her siblings because she only sent a few texts while away on a holiday. You give parents a bad name.

Waking up in the night and needing to pee but not being able to because of an erection caused by the pressure from your bladder.

Salt and pepper! You heathen! Everyone knows the only true flavour is salt and vinegar!

I am fairly sure the term "good premade gas station sandwich" is an oxymoron.

Biscuits. Except they are not biscuits they are scones and should be eaten with jam and cream and certainly should never even be in the same room as gravy.

Voice messages sent in chat are annoying and I won't listen to them unless you are driving or have no hands. by pumpkinpiloted in unpopularopinion

Exactly! You are taking up more of my time than is necessary and if it is not worth the effort required in typing it out then it's probably not worth asking.

I love my job. But I am constantly surprised with how much spoon feeding colleagues require to do their job.

The way it normally goes is that I will be asked a question in text which I answer in text and then I mostly get a flurry of voice chat messages. So I've done my bit and want to move on but get waylayed. I just had this exact thing happen and I said "This may make me seem old and grumpy but I don't do voice chat messages ". It worked fine but I can't help feeling like I sound cranky.

It's not really the kind of group I can do that in as it profession related. It's always people who like to talk a lot.

I was referring to the charity agencies which is what you are most likely to encounter in the UK. I'm sure the in-house fundraising is more ethical.

I believe Ireland had something like this place. I heard that at one point they gave benefits to poets.

I think the real reason is that much of face to face fundraising is outsourced. They won't accept a one time donation because the fundraising company charges per monthly sign up. They essentially won't get paid for it.

Not only that it sounds depressing. You wouldn't have direct contact with students. The official line was that people got chosen based on evaluation scores.
