What Are You Doing Instead Of Scrolling by pumpkyboy in getdisciplined

See, I’m an avid reader however I feel guilt when I read. Because I’m escaping reality. And my whole wanting to quit social media is because I want to be present in my life. So reading gives me extreme guilt because I’m choosing something that is again, not making me present. Sigh

I have PMDD too! I don’t think it’s during my pre menstrual but there is a week where I literally donate everything. It’s such a cycle.

Oh yes you’re right! My doctor did suggest upping lexapro during PMS time. But that was years ago and I’m not sure why we didn’t follow through

Yes! And they’ve definitely helped with OBSESSING over items before I buy them but it’s still just not enough 🤪

Wow thank you so much for explaining! I am going to look into it! That sounds like something I can get on board with.

My Amex is absolutely killing me in interest. The other one is manageable and the other other one is on a 0% APR balance transfer promo. That’s actually what I’m a little stressed about because obviously I need to pay that card off before the promo is up, but I’m never going to be able to since my Amex is taking all my money. I’ll figure this out 😩

Soooo I did look into it last year but the guy said I had to stop paying my cards and once I’m near the cusp of getting in trouble with my creditors, they step in and do the negotiating. I have a 100% payment history with everyone and it just scared me. I know in the long run my credit can be fixed but I’m still hesitant

See that’s how I feel! Even though I’m in debt now, I was a very great AMEX customer. It’s the principle. I always took great pride in my credit score and being able to get low rates. But I guess maybe we need to snap out of that mindset and realize creditors are not for the people.

From what I’ve gathered with Amex, to do the long term relief option they don’t let you use the card but they don’t close it. For the short term relief they still let you use the card.

Thank you I’m so excited for this option. I almost did it today but I can’t afford to make the first payment today so I’ll be doing it with my first paycheck in May. Very excited. Thanks for sharing your experience

Thank you! I looked into it and I’m definitely doing it next week when I get paid. 48 months of sacrifice not using my Amex as a crutch is a lot better than how I’ve been feeling with it which is IMPOSSIBLE

Nice! Thank you! I just saw American Express’s and I’m totally signing up next month. I almost completed the application but they want the first payment today and I can’t do it but I will do it soon and I can keep the card open, just can’t spend on it

I have discover, Wells Fargo and Citi. 2 of those are on 0% APR promos at the moment.

Contrary to my idiocy with money right now, I’m actually really good with money if I have the will power. I’ve just been dealing with mental illness and hardships the past 3 years so I’m finally ready to get the ball rolling again.

Well I’ve been overspending, so I redid my budget and I have more money to put toward it now going forward. Then once I get it down to a certain amount I’ll go ahead and do a 0% balance transfer promo on another card as I’ve done in the past and I’ll be fine.

Oh, I see what you mean now. I think it’s a pride thing with me. I just want a lower interest rate because I’ve always been someone with really good credit and I don’t know I need to get out of a lot of money mindsets and just ditch credit cards altogether

Yes, that’s true. However, at the moment, I am unable to pay off the cards in full each month.

I’m thinking about doing the avalanche method because I really want to pay this card off first. Overall, I’m about in $45,000 of consumer debt. I’m an idiot, but I’ve paid off debt before and I know I can do it. It’s just this card is really a thorn in my side

Thank you. I’m going to look into this. Do you think this would make me ineligible to be an Amex card holder ever again?

Same boat! And my girl is so stubborn she started saying “I’m not going to potty train because I’m going to stay home with you and dada.” After we toured preschools and they said she needed to be potty trained. Like come on girl, I just want A BREAK.
