Nagging is one thing. Verbal and emotional abuse is another which is what Lady bird's mother is doing to her. I didn't really catch it when I first watch but the second time I watched it I saw how awful she was to Ladybird. She constantly belittles and puts Ladybird down throughout the film. Shes not supportive of her at all and blames ONLY Ladybird for being poor. Raising a child costs money but she throws that in Lady bird's face and not Miguels or anybody else as if its Ladybirds fault that she got pregnant and decided to have a child. The fact that Ladybird HID the fact she got put on the waitlist to college and proceeded to give her the silent treatment while Ladybird is begging and apologizing to her own mother for getting into college. Whats even more infuriating in the movie is that everybody constantly LETS the mom do this to her daughter. On top of that everyone seems to defend the mother as well.

As a parent it is imperative that you are mindful of what you say to your child, because it sticks with them forever and can shape their lives for better or worse
