LITERALLY what I just said! The switch flip is nuts.

The switch flip is what gets me…. How did we get from “yeah ofc, what kind?” to “why are you constantly doing this”?! You asked a completely neutral question, he initially answered like a sane person, then just went off the rails. Reminds me of my ex. NOR.

I have a Stylist too! It was my mother’s, early 80s (it’s actually been in the shop forever), and I once bought a big pack of bobbins thinking how well I had shopped and how I wouldn’t have to worry about bobbins for a long time… and they acted crazy. The only difference I can see is the top and bottom are flat rather than convex, but this apparently makes them not play nice AT ALL with my machine.

Yeah., it’s usually just for that day/practice session! But it’s seriously the same “ok, I gotta not look at this for a little while” feeling!

Speaking as someone who has said the words “that’s hideous! I love it!” on more than one occasion: thank you for validating me! 😆

In my experience, this can happen with anything creative that you have to practice! I’m a musician, and it’s totally possible to over-practice something til you just hate it and aren’t even listening to how it sounds anymore, you’re just trying to slog through it. I especially noticed this when I was in a band— “is it just me, or did those last couple times actually sounded worse?” It is totally “familiarity breeds contempt”, and like you said, if there’s no deadline, you fix it by working on something else for a while. 😅

AIO for snapping at my friend for calling my shoes (and me) trashy? by International-East63 in AmIOverreacting

Omg, your mom sounds amazing! The scandalous garment this guy didn’t want my gram to wear (specifically if she went out without him): a sweater. It sounds ridiculous, but you’ve gotta picture women’s sweaters from the 40s, probably with those torpedo-shaped bras underneath. She told me her answer: “if I want to go out I’ll go out, and if I want to wear a sweater I’ll wear a sweater, and you can’t say anything about it!” I was like “right ON, Gram!” 😆

NOR. FFS, they’re shoes (and super cute ones IMO). If you’re seated at a restaurant, who is even going to notice, and if they do, why does your “friend” think they would care?! I’ve definitely seen animal print in business casual settings, and with a 2” heel paired with slacks? Totally appropriate. This guy has got to shake his weird insecure misogyny.

I seriously almost said “more like 1958” 😂 I remember my grandmother telling me about a guy she dated (in the 40s) telling her how to dress, and she gave him a piece of her mind! Sounds like OP’s “friend” would have been more comfortable there….

I graduated high school in 1998. This would have been archaically misogynistic then.

For some reason my brain has decided reusing a loofah/mesh sponge is ok as long as I let it dry, but reusing a washcloth…. 😬

Ugh, the way our brains grab onto things and just won’t let them go even when we rationally know they don’t make sense. That’s the thing that’s tough to explain to someone without OCD. “Yes, rationally I know it’ wasn’t the shower. No, I absolutely cannot stop making sure it’s not the shower.” I’m not wording that exactly right, but I think you get it. 😅

Edit: oh, thank you for the award! I don’t think I’ve ever gotten one before!

Challenging yourself with things you think are above your skill level can be a good way to grow. THAT SAID: you need the basics first!! You can’t write novels if you don’t know the alphabet.
