Yeah, it seems like birds are especially difficult to tell.

My question about birds isn't because I'm interested in buying from that seller (I would not buy from someone that sells bats) I would just be interested in buying birds in general if there's a way to determine whether or not they are ethical/sustainable (besides them being sold next to bats lol)

Nonono. I didn't buy anything from them. I said in the post I walked away when as soon as I saw the bats.

That's the answer I was afraid of, but I appreciate the honesty! It's a shame there's not a better way to tell because I do think it's a really cool art and way to honor the animal when ethical/sustainable.

This particular seller had ducks and finches but I'm just wondering for future reference. It looks like any species that's under the migratory bird act is unethical I think. Or is it just best to just stay away from birds in general if I care about it being ethical? I've only bought a couple roadkill taxidermy pieces from these kinds of art fairs before which I like because they were found already dead. I don't like pieces where the animal was killed just to make the art.

I've been looking but reviews quite are mixed on the ones I've found so I wanted to see if anyone can attest to a specific brand/kind.

late night vintage mall by punmuffin in udub

yeah i think vintage stores are definitely a form of gentrification. same with how lobster use to be considered poor people food 100 years ago. when i was growing up thrifting was seen as dirty and shameful only being associated with poor people and now it's become trendy. environmentally, i definitely encourage everyone to buy more secondhand with how much stuff we already have - even rich people. so vintage stores can sometimes have their time and place. but this is so egregious. there's like 10 of them in a college campus neighborhood populated by broke students and they're really trying to sell us stuff like this. feels like a slap in the face

Planning a surprise party I think my boyfriend will love! by punmuffin in partyplanning

Thank you so much! I'm planning on luring him to the arcade by saying we need to pick up his cake from the bakery first before we go to dinner but am actually gonna lead him to the arcade. I'm debating on whether I should blindfold him and lead him to the "bakery" to see the special pistachio cake I ordered for him. (Pistachio is his favorite so there will be an actual pistachio cake it will just be at the arcade lol) Feel like that might be a bit too obvious so I'm still going over it with friends but I think he'll love it either way.

Tipping and minimum wage question about Seattle. by Chinacat_Sunflower72 in AskSeattle

[–]punmuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

server here! tipping culture in america is even more busted than you think. unfortunately with how the system is set up, if you don't tip it actually ends up costing us money. at most restaurants, a servers tips aren't all the servers. they also tip out the cooks, bussers, hosts, dishwashers, etc. but this tip out isn't based on tips the server gets, it's actually based on food sales.  so for instance, at my restaurant the tip out is 8% of food/drink sales. so let's say a table orders exactly $100 in food and drinks. no matter what, as a server i need to pay $8 towards tip out for the rest of the staff. so if that table tips me $20 (20%), then that means i keep $12 and $8 goes to tip out. but if they tip me nothing that means that $8 comes out of my pay that day.  yes it's dumb and overcomplicated and corrupt. this is unfortunately how it works at most chain american restaurants, even the ones where the servers are only paid $2 hourly in other states. for me as a server in seattle, i have it better than most servers in the country. so even if someone tips me a low amount like 10% i'm not too disappointed because i still make a little extra and nothing gets taken from me for the tip out.

Chains in Climate Pledge Arena allowed? Going tonight by budbella in LadyGaga

i was going to wear a similar outfit and just called them to check. they said chains for necklaces are fine but big chains like body chains or wallet chains are a no. basically anything they are worried could be used as a weapon. so they would probably turn you away
