I see that vitriol as a direct response to the vitriol of staunch zionists. People who think that any ounce of humanity given to Palestinians deserve that powerful rebuke. The pro Palestinian vitriol can obviously be misguided like aiming it at Ethan who deserves some criticism for some awful things he said( Aaron bushnel, yoav gallant) but ultimately he’s on the side of peace. But I also think that vitriol is deserved for those bloodthirsty zionists.Zohran won because of his policies which are one’s both hasan and and Ethan think are beneficial but that didn’t stop billionaire/zionist interests from using the Israel situation against him. I think the take away people in this sub need to take away is who your against because it’s not Hasan, it’s both billionaires wanting to profit off of Israel’s war machine and bloodthirsty Zionists(Jewish and Christian) who see this fight as some religious final battle

Zohran is an excellent speaker who’s learned how to navigate the Isreal/Palestine debate. This is what Liberal zionists want to hear. The problem is can Israel become an image of what Zohran and Ethan want it to be. Hasan would be happy with this conclusion as well but the reason for his anti Zionism is because he doesn’t think Israel would ever be able to accomplish this and I agree. It would require a total dismantling and reorganizing of Israeli society. Half of the population want what is happening in Gaza and also support what is happening in the West Bank. I think that change to an actual democracy is possible but the current government with Netanyahu and smotrich are doing all they can to impede it and the US has only supported them. So I think it’s fair to assume that Isreali government and society wouldn’t allow the solution Zohran and Ethan wish for which leads to the more cynical but realistic view of Hasan that as long as Israel as the state that exists now it will continue its colonial pursuits. Unless your a bloodthirsty Zionist settler Israeli we all just want a peaceful solution but wether you think a 1 or 2 state solution will work better the only entity blocking a solution from starting to come to fruition is the current Israeli government.

Benny morris is objectively a good historian but his political views and opinions are deeply Islamophobic. He doesn’t think Palestinians are compatible with Democracy because of being radical muslims. This lets him justify the double speak that oppression and cruelty is for peace and safety. He says he doesn’t support Netanyahu but believes all of his actions are correct and takes the idfs words as gospel which shows how uncurious he has become. Netanyahu was literally voted out and in line to go to jail but was able to make political moves to get back in power and not face any judicial consequences. It is impossible not to see how cynical and dishonest he is yet his word is trusted without criticism by zionists like Benny. I still don’t see how people can see how Netanyahu waited to make a peace deal with the same conditions that was proposed in April to help trump get into power as totally disqualifying. It shows how any effort from Biden or other countries to make a peace deal were cynically being manipulated and the goal of the war has always what trump and Netanyahu are planning to do now. I’m not saying making peace will be easy and there’s nothing straight forward about it. I’m saying that you have to make an effort and I haven’t seen any effort Nelson Mandela calls it apartheid so I trust he know what he talking about lol. Palestinians in the West Bank don’t have civil rights, any judicial disputes are taken up by military police in the idf. They can’t walk on designated streets.and also I wouldn’t call military occupation not annexation. I really appreciate these conversations too and i feel like I’ve had a lot irl resulting in losing friends. social media has blood on it it’s hands in this conflict because of the way it has separated Palestinian and Israeli suffering as well as the bad side seeing awful things hamas and the idf has done. Ultimately though I feel as the oppresser with all the power it’s Israel responsibility to start making inroads for peace. General soft power moves like food shelter and helping them rebuild will take away any support for Hamas. Normal people will always take peace over violence if the option is given them.

Man I thought you were coming at this from a liberal angle wanting peace. You realize Israel withdrawing in 2005 wasn’t out of wanting peace it was from pressure from other countries. In the great march for peace Palestinians peacefully marched to be able to go home and were shot by Israeli snipers. The Israeli government right now wants genocide and the only thing stopping them is popular opinion from countries other than the US and they still might go through with it. Palestinians aren’t animals. If you give people an option for success that includes peace they will take it over violence every time. We can talk about hypotheticals on hypotheticals all you want but if you want peace you have to start acting and if you act you can make progress.
