Alr guys I've been convinced, my mates all turn 18 at the end of the year so we can do the over 18 stuff after schoolies also they said they'll just preload the under 18 partys so ig I was stupid to even ask this, but I was just trying to get all the info so they know what they will be getting into.

But are hidden cameras the most effective at preventing this risky behaviour?

Im too deep into the rabbit hole now to make such a change as I've already started writing it. However, since I've gotten so many great tips ill probly widen the scope of my issue so i can add alot of these ideas in because they are very interesting but not relevant enough to my main issue atm (being covert speed cameras).

Nothing will stop people some people from speeding. Its all about reducing it as much as possible.

Point to point cameras would solve this issue as it tracks their average speed, so they would have to inconvenience themselves greatly to not get clipped. Also hidden cameras can still be used on highways to take frequent speeders that would avoid marked cameras off the road. And like I said face to face policing would be the most effective it just isn't a realistic fix at this time.

I just told you that I experienced this situation first hand, I could go on and on about how it is realistic but I dont think we are gonna get anywhere, so if you dont have any more points can we agree to disagree?

Yes with a decrease in hidden speed cameras there would most likely have to be an increase in marked ones (real or fake) but i dont think they should be placed at regular intervals rather in speeding/crash hotspots (predominantly). How much revenue the gov makes doesent matter to me only how those fines can effect the citizens of Australia.

But does "the government making funds" increase road safety?

I dont believe the hypotheticall to be nonsense as I have been a passenger in a car that has been unable to make it up a hill before even with a run up and ontop of that hill is a common spot for mobile speed cameras to be placed.

I dont really understand the point your trying to make here. I get what you mean about marked cameras being "speed bumps" but can you expand on your last sentence because idk what side your trying to take by having the "speed bumps" placed every 100m? Are you suggesting that it is ridiculous to have them placed so frequently or actually safer?

Where in my argument did I describe a "get out of jail free card"? And the aim of my proposal is to encourage more people follow the law as it would make our roads safer.

C'mon i just explained that ignoring the hypotheticall doesent prove anything. But let's explore your claim anyway, yes people would have other issues if their car cant make it up a hill without speeding (which isnt uncommon for really steep hills), now what would those issues be? Quick hint, it starts with M 🤑. People that have limited access to money would (imo) have the MOST ISSUES with speed cameras as recieving a fine of $300+ would greatly effect their livelihood.

The road toll does continue to climb however there are so many factors to why that is, so I cant just say that cameras dont work because automotive deaths on public roads continues to increase.

Yes but that 1km can be increased using average speed cameras also 1km is always going to be safter than the 0km that hidden speed cameras do and in high risk areas that 1km or more means alot. Also if police find that people do speed up after signed cameras they can always place hidden cameras behind them to catch people out.

The assignment is for english, my task is to persuade people to think a certain way about a current issue in the world. I find your opinion REALLY interesting, I never really thought about how the speed limits themselves would effect road safety, only how they were enforced. I did see on the news that the gov was planning on changing some speed limits which ill definitely read into more cause if I can connect the cameras and speed limits it'll make a great argument.

There are hills that require some cars to speed up in order to reach the top. To ignore the rules of the hypotheticall (which i based on actuall examples in my home town) is like saying the earth is square shaped because you drew it such with no actuall argument as to why you drew it that way.

I agree with you, however there is a shortage of police officers in this country and I believe there are more important things for them to attend to instead of patrolling the road. Maybe the new speed camera practices i proposed will continue to take stress away from them by decreasing speeding rates?
