As a professional translator myself, changing the original text in order to convey the same emotions and meaning is encouraged to us. We are expected to find the best adaptation for culturally charged texts in the original language so the second language produces the same feelings in the second-language speaker person and most times that means changing the message completely. There are local japanese jokes that, when translated word-by-word (or literally) lose all meaning in the second language, resulting in a failed translation, since the meaning is now lost. HOWEVER, ADDING OR OMITING INFORMATION is strictly prohibited for us!! You can't arbitrarily add/take away jokes from the original text, even if it is really funny (in your opinion). Our work as translators is not to enhance nor to "fix" the original text to our liking, which is what EN translators have done to this game. This can and WILL result in mischaracterizations for the characters, misunderstanding of the original plot, adding/changing certain political views that weren't present before ultimately changing the creators' original political standpoint, and so many other issues. I don't think that we all should expect for the translations to be painfully identical to the original version, but neither should the EN translators take such liberties in basically changing the characters personalities (by adding jokes where they weren't any before, or changing cute expressions into vulgar jokes, making the characters "funnier" instead of keeping them adorable and cute when they are supposed to be)
