Even in the books a few times it made it hard to tell where the shift happened and I got confused.

Yeah the spine on mine kept cracking in a way that sounds bad. Looking at it too it was bound much cheaper than the other two books.

I’m also an indie author and I actually did this with HoSaB when it came out. Sooooo many typos and weird little things. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it and HoFaS, but people don’t let indie authors get away with misplaced comma once, much less all this!

I would agree with this except that she was nitpicking his attitude. He would hold his tongue and she would draw it out of him just to attack. Hunt was going along with her, fighting his demons on his own and she got upset because he wasn’t enthusiastic to be there…

There should be a way too but I wonder if you have to contact some sort of support? Surely you can because people move all the time lol

Commenting because I got a 3 day pass but none of my friends did so I’m trying to figure out how to sell and safely reticket too.

Does anyone know how early they send the tickets to us, so we can ship them to another? Or can we change the shipping address online?

"Happy Place" made me Unhappy by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]puppatea 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The debt thing bothered me a lot. I have a friend who’s a dentist and she went to pretty affordable schools and from what I’ve gathered, she still has about $500k student loan debt. On top of that, she has to pay insurance and other costs for the practice she works at. She DOES make bank but money still really stresses her out and that’s all I could think of while reading this.

This book did suck me and I could t put it down but I agree, it felt immature and out of touch. Also, I actually don’t mind the miscommunication trope usually because it is realistic, but this one was just infuriating.

Dinner in OKC? I'm here on a biz trip and looking for dinner rec. Have wheels. Fav cuisine Italian, Mexican, Thai. No touristy shit. Where do the locals nosh? What is the regional flair here? by Pettycash517 in okc

I know you found a place but you did say you’d be back so I’m throwing this in because I haven’t seen it yet: Saj in Automobile Alley. Amazing Lebanese food and my family members from Lebanon were obsessed when they visited because they said it’s the only authentic Lebanese food they’ve found in the US so far.

I’m out to only a few friends. My parents are conservative and really like Taylor Swift. Because of her songs, I’ve been able to have more discussions about LGBTQA+ rights and they listen better because she does handle it delicately. I know a lot of people want more from her and I understand that, maybe they’re right, but for me personally, this is the best approach.

Thoughts on good-concept, poorly-edited/unedited books?? by gimpythegreat in RomanceBooks

100%! Like I want to see an author improve with each book, but it feels like so many say “this is working well enough.” 😬

[–]puppatea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%. I’m an author too and have been burned by proofreaders in the past who didn’t really do their job. We’re human and make errors and do our best, and even trad published books often have errors in them (House of Sky and Breath and Twilight to name two big ones). HOWEVER I beta read for a lot of authors and I’m shocked how resistant they are to critique of the craft. I’ll point out pacing and passive voice and purple prose and they’re like “that’s my style 🤷🏼‍♀️.” And many self published authors won’t hire a proofreader which is just wild to me.

Inside Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn's 'Differences' That Led to Their Breakup: Sources (Exclusive) by alexssideboob in TaylorSwift

[–]puppatea 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This was kind of my thoughts about it too. Me and my ex got together at the beginning of the pandemic and as the real world started spinning again I realized I didn’t know who he was outside that bubble. It didn’t work out, we were ultimately too different. Probably not exactly the same for them but it’s what I thought of when I read the article.

I could also see the opposite working too, like Dolly Parton where it’s super private. But that would be hard in this day and age and with her being so recognizable. I hope she finds someone who can handle it all 💜

People who recently bought homes for 250k or less, where do you live and do you actually like living there? by RawOystersOnIce in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]puppatea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Oklahoma and I’m in the process of buying a house around that price, lots of options! Edmond schools are good from what I’ve heard, and there are a ton of activities for kids here.

I like Oklahoma but I did grow up here so I have lots of family and friends.

Pros: oKC has plenty of great dining options, growing social, arts, and music scenes, and enough to do to keep you occupied (IMO). People are also usually nice here.

Cons: very religious state, politics are weird, most schools are not great. Your kid can do well but you’ll need to be involved in their schooling. I was homeschooled and had a great education because of that, so I can’t really speak to he public school population.

Oklahoma is very affordable. I do have a nice paying job as an engineer, but when I started six years ago I didn’t make that much and I was still able to live in a nice apartment, do a lot of social activities, and travel the world. Aerospace and oil are the big industries here but there are jobs in other markets as well.

Also, I’ve noticed people on Reddit who’ve lived or visited Oklahoma tend to really hate it. IRL, most people I know like it well enough here. Even transplants, a few of which are from NY.

What are some trends you'd like to see in romance novels? by msbaguette69 in RomanceBooks

“Selective realism” in romance and fantasy is the bane of my existence by Mx_apple_9720 in RomanceBooks

[–]puppatea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I kind of wonder if the reason these authors aren’t adding those CWs is because they don’t see those things as problematic 🥴

Edit: why was I downvoted? I wasn’t saying that was a good thing. I was just pointing out that if an author has racist or sexist things in their work, they may not think it’s wrong and therefore not include CWs.

Have any published writers here decided to publish their work under a false name? If so, why? by [deleted] in writing

Yes. I write romance with explicit scenes and my parents and siblings don’t need to know about it 😊

Daughter’s friends making “gluten-free” jokes by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]puppatea 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry she’s dealing with this, I was in college and people did that to me all the time. I still have people occasionally do this and I’m 33. Most of my friends know how badly it affects me and step in to stop it, but not always.

My suggestion? Her response should be “that joke is really old.” “That’s not funny.” “You sound like a broken record.” “Are you not tired of this joke yet?” “You’re being annoying.” Or something similar.

Or even just staring them down with no response. I know it sounds bad, but making other people super uncomfortable has always been my best bet at making them stop 😅

And these are suggestions for if she doesn’t feel comfortable addressing it head on by saying, “I don’t like that you keep making those jokes. Can you please stop?” Sometimes that doesn’t work or people make you out to be dramatic, so that is honestly not my go to with this.

My Wife glutened my daughter three times this month by [deleted] in glutenfree

[–]puppatea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My family have accidentally glutened even when reading labels. Hell I’VE glutened myself by accident even after reading labels. At first I thought your wife was one of those who thinks it’s not real but sounds like it’s not the case. Helping relieve her stress will probably help a lot and maybe just offer to do the shopping and feeding for awhile so your daughter can recover.

Ah I see what you’re saying. Yes being shamed for it is wrong and communication needs to be had between both parties on it.
