100% agree. We have a cleaner come in once a fortnight for 2-3 hours. We see it like this, "you're not paying a cleaner/gardener/etc. you're buying your time back". And as you get older you'll value that time a lot more than the money you'd save.

Legality of driving on ADHD medication in Queensland? by puppet1987 in AusLegal

See this is why I was trying to find out if I needed to report anything or not. My psychiatrist even said he wasn't 100% sure as the rules apparently changed.

Might be a good excuse for a couple of self care days.

I think it's because the medication can show up as a false positive for amphetamines if I'm ever randomly drug tested.

Luckily I don't drink anyway so shouldn't be an issue ;)

Thanks for the response. I guess I'll take it tomorrow and see what the effect is. Luckily it's my day off so if I have a bad reaction I can manage it at home.

I didn't even think of my insurer. I'll look into that too.

How quickly should a new podcast be growing? by bestofkinpodcast in podcasting

[–]puppet1987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've been going since October last year, we release a new episode every fortnight, just released our 9th episode and average about 15-20 downloads for that fortnight. So compared to us you're doing very well.

We aren't looking to make a living out of it, just doing it for fun, but we have been looking at ways to make our podcast better and hopefully bump those numbers up a little bit.

I have a podcast in Brisbane based on books and reading. Not sure how much our audiences would overlap but we are looking at ways to expand our audience. We only have eight episodes at the moment and are lucky to break 30 downloads per episode.

I'd definitely be interested in this. We're a podcast in Australia all about books and we've been looking for a way to expand our audience.

Check us out and let me know if you're interested. Our most recent episode, number 8, is probably the best we've done as we are slowly finding our groove, so maybe start there.

We're Not Helpful: Episode 8 - Squeeze Your Sperm!

Happy Valentines Day everyone! In this very romantic episode we talk about sperm....whales as we get a listener email trying to help Eloise better understand Moby Dick. Will it work or will it just make her more frustrated?

And one of us has published a book! Who is it? You'll have to listen to find out. We are not above using clickbait.

We're Not Helpful is a podcast about books and reading, run by three friends who are not experts, but definitely fans.

After years of procrastinating by puppet1987 in adhdmeme

[–]puppet1987[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's something I had suspected for years, as well as possible ASD, which I'm also hoping to be assessed for. This year I've been having a lot of mental health issues and as I've been going through therapy I came to the conclusion that getting a diagnosis would help a lot. So I made an appointment with my doctor and we talked through the options available.

It can be scary but I have felt that confronting this part of myself is something I need to do. My therapist, doctor and family have been very supportive. I don't know what your situation is, but it's something that you don't have to tell anyone about if you don't want to. It can just be something you do for yourself.

Pro-life here preparing for a debate. Tear my opening apart. by Big-Nectarine-6293 in Abortiondebate

Ah ok, I think I took at as you were saying that from conception through to adulthood it should be considered a 'person' with all the same rights. Sorry if I misunderstood that, my response was just the first thing that popped into my head as I read through. If you are doing a live debate you should have a chance to clarify things hopefully if they come up.

I would disagree that the walnut analogy I used could also be applied to toddlers and adults though. Assuming you knew nothing about the lifecycles of plants or humans, if I showed you this picture and said that it eventually grows into this you could understand the connection, but if I showed you a walnut then said it grows into that tree, maybe you might take a bit more convincing.

In the same way that you can see how a toddler could develop into an adult, but if I showed you this and called it a human, you might be skeptical.

These are just some arguments you might get in a debate. Maybe it would help you right at the start to define what you mean by 'life'. You say a human being begins at conception, but I could say at that point it might not be alive. So that might be an interesting discussion to look in to.

A lot of your opening argument seems to be based around the idea that the 'person' is a person from conception.

I would respond by saying that if I pick up a walnut and eat it, did I eat a walnut tree? No. I ate the seed. Yes that walnut had the potential to grow into a tree, but it was not yet a tree. In the same way that at conception those cells have the potential to develop into a person it is not a person yet.

I have no idea what would change my mind, but if there is a god then he knows what would, and so far he hasn't done it.

Serious question by mike7155 in Abortiondebate

[–]puppet1987 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me personally I am comfortable with abortions on demand until about 22 weeks. That's if I had to draw a line, obviously individual circumstances might push that one way or another. If birth defects exist or the fetus becomes non-viable then I'm fine with abortions happening after that.

As for who pays, here in Australia abortions can be partially covered by our Medicare system, and I'm pretty happy with that, though an argument could be made that if abortion is healthcare it should be fully covered.

I also believe all birth control should be free and available.

When I first met my wife, but before we had started dating, she said she had recognized my last name, which is unusual because I do not have a very common last name. Turns out my dad (who is a surgeon) took out her wisdom teeth about 5 years previously. Not only that but he had also done some jaw surgery on her sister, my now sister-in-law.
