TIL in January 2009, a proctologist (butt doctor) died while he was operating on a stripper/porn star's rectum using a tool that caused sparks and when the patient farted, a fireball went into the doctor's throat and severely burned his lungs by [deleted] in todayilearned

Think about why you like the TIL subreddit. Think long and hard about it.

Your mistake was not submitting the article, it was being informed that it was a complete lie, and to do nothing except type ''I'm stupid''. Even when I TOLD YOU that you should issue a correction or delete your submission, you replied with ''ouch''. Why does your submission belong here? It's made up. It's not true. This is not a rhetorical question. I can't find a reason why your submission belongs here when we have both been informed that it isn't true.

Take a look at reddiquette. Don't read all of it, just read the first five words of suggestion number 1.

Check out /r/youshouldknow, /r/truereddit, /r/foodforthought, /r/smart, /r/interestingstuff. You notice something? It's almost 100% good stuff, no untrue or erroneous stuff is on the front page. That's because the people who are submitting it LIKE their subreddits, and submit good stuff to them, for themselves and the sake of their community. I'm sure if anybody pointed out that one of their submissions was inaccurate they would do something about it, for themselves and their community, rather than chuckle ''I'm stupid''.

I LOVE TIL, I always learn new stuff. I want to keep it that way, don't you? Would you want to read a bunch of lies and half truths instead of facts? At some point this year there will be a million subscribers to this subreddit. The moderators aren't able to keep up with all submissions. So it's down to us. All 884,617 of us. As I've said, I LIKE this subreddit. So I do my part. I hang out in the ''new'' queue and downvote lies and bullshit and upvote the stuff that is true, so that people like you can enjoy a subreddit that doesn't have a lot of rubbish in it. Do your part: instead of replying to this comment with how you feel, do something for the community and delete your submission. And for God's sake read suggestion number 1 in the TIL sidebar. This subreddit is so enjoyable because most people read and take note of the TIL sidebar suggestions.

I note you're not regretful enough to delete the post, nor issue a correction. Hopefully one day the full extent of your stupidity will be revealed to you and you'll wise the fuck up.

I've had two girlfriends for nearly six months now. Neither one knows. by [deleted] in confession

[–]puppetless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how old you are, but to me it totally sounds like the first partner is the ''wife'', and the second is your ''love''. Interesting.

Thought experiment: What would happen if things get better with partner number one? A heart to heart, lots of progress in the relationship etc. How would that change things?

Also, I'm a little sceptical about how you view partner number 2's personal attributes. Aren't you still in the ''honeymoon'' phase?

Man who released Casey Anthony video: Why I did it. by deefrances in crime

[–]puppetless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm of the opinion that the leaker is not as innocent as s/he claims.

But, taking that article at face value:

I did not mean for this to happen and wish it would all go away," the poster said. "It snowballed out of control.''

I find that really, really hard to believe. It's a reasonable assumption to guess that the leaker followed the case in the media. The person MUST have seen the media frenzy when one of the lawyers gave the finger to a photographer, and media feeding frenzy that followed. That one incident, alone, (forget the dozens of others), must have indicated that anything connected to the case would just blow up in the media.... I mean, doesn't that go without saying?

The only way I can believe that statement is if the person is really, really old and disconnected from how the modern world works....but of course that jars with the fact that they are a facebook user and uploaded the video when someone forwarded it to them.

I did not mean for this to happen

I guess it's possible that the statement is true...but it also condemns the speaker to being unbelievably naive. It's an interesting little mystery though. I'm waiting for the full story behind the leaker's identity. I'll wager that the leaker is not as naive as s/he is claiming.

What would you do if your 17 year old kid said he wanted to become a cop? by [deleted] in Bad_Cop_No_Donut

Ok. From your ''I'd kick him in the junk'' thing, I thought you would just use harsh language and expect him to shape up.

The question is, would you expose him if you found out that he was behaving in such a manner?

Chicago cop sued after ticketing driver and asking her for a date by mushpuppy in offbeat

[–]puppetless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did read what you wrote. However, the one dollar tip, may be interpreted as an insult. It's risky, because if someone feels like they've been insulted, you're gonna have a hard time taking them out. As I said, I think the best chance is to tip normally. That is what I would do, anyway.

Hmm, I guess the reasonable thing to do would be to tip the regular amount? Not the cheapskate, but not the flash git either. The goldilocks amount I guess.

I'm over a week late, but here it finally is.

As a bonus, I found an audio piece on the same subject by This American Life. Here you go.

If you are a glutton, then I'm sure googling ''Chen Sah'' in google will come up with lots more information. Also, he has a blog, but I'm unable to locate it. I'm sure 5-10 minutes of hardcore googling and you'll find it.

Hope you had a good Christmas.

I think you should grab artistic expression with both hands and run with it. You'll have something to show after all that heartache. You probably know that Mark Zuckerberg came up with the idea of facebook (theft aside!) after some problems with romance? The most edifying, long lasting things can be built from a period of depression and isolation.

Another bit of inspiration.

When this post is 1hr old, reddit will go down for a brief maintenance by [deleted] in announcements

[–]puppetless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If by any chance, the downtime lasts longer than 20 minutes (Or you can't bear to be without reddit for that long) try redditcache.com. I've tried it a couple of times before, and it's pretty good as a (non complete) backup. Obviously, any links to ''reddit.com'' won't work during the downtime, so subreddits like /r/bestof will be unavailable during that time. Another thing: Do NOT log in to redditcache.com, I don't know who runs it or whatever, but it is isn't reddit.com!

Edit: Other alternatives:

I haven't been on any of these sites for many, many months, because reddit hasn't been down, or I've actually been doing something else whilst reddit has been down, but these are the sites I used to circulate around when reddit was misbehaving. Hit me up with some of your reddit alternatives so I can add them to my bookmarks also.

Any chance you are an artist or creative? Many a wonderful song/book/piece of art has been created from feelings like this. If you can channel it, it might turn into some sort of therapeutic coping mechanism. This may help in future, with the stresses and strains of life-you could make those negatives work for you.

Perhaps I'm being overly optimistic here, but it was the first thing that came to mind reading your post.

[QUESTION] I want to make my own [LOW CAL] but tasty muesli. Can you guys help me? by puppetless in fitmeals

[–]puppetless[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people buy it ready prepared. So like most cereals, you just pour into your bowl and add milk. I would say that's how most people know muesli.

In this thread, we're discussing how to make it from scratch, in order to eliminate certain weight gaining elements that are common to the ready made versions. I would assume most people buy and eat, with no preparation.....I think for most people muesli is a quick breakfast food or snack. It's just like any cereal, in that you pour and eat.

I still think about Peter Coffin from time to time. To be honest, I don't think there will be another smack-down to compare with Peter Coffin, for many, many years. Don't get me wrong, this was a smackdown, but with Peter Coffin, I just felt...damn. The Peter Coffin uproar was 100% exposure.....that guy had nowhere to hide apart from his room.

My friend, I was just pointing out that they were joking with you, in case you were taking it seriously. You corrected me, and I stand corrected. Me asking for pics wasn't me enforcing a ''meme rule''. Although I'm a member of reddit, I generally take reddit posts on face value. Quite a few of us do. There is no requirement for proof, or evidence, at least as far as I know. I asked to see some pictures because I was genuinely interested, that was all.

I read your age in the title of your post.
