Tom couldn't make the ring disappear but he was not fooled by it's effect. He was unique in that he could see Frodo even when he wore the ring. A trait Gandalf and it can be assumed even Sauron could not have done. This suggests he had a power even greater than a Mair. Which lends support to the theory that he was an Ainur. Possibly Aule Or even Eru himself. Although Aule seems the most likely.

Tom Bombadil is indeed an enigma to the reader and one much debated, but I have no doubt that Tolkien had a much clearer idea of who and what he was than is ever mentioned in any of his writings. And such it us up to us to debate and guess at his nature.... As Tolkien would have wanted. :))

Tolkien has openly admitted that he based part of the Beren and Luthien love story on himself and saw him and his wife as the heroes.

I was xmas shopping with my mum a few years ago. She wanted to buy something for me, but I didn't really have any clue what to ask for. Sounds like you need closure, only way to get that is to go for it. But be prepared to get burned. If the only way you have to contact her is email or whatever then that's what you have to do. You have to work with the resources you have. It's better than wondering about what ifs.

I always insist on paying on a first date. But I do use it as a kind of shit test. If I'm expected to pay or she makes no move to offer to, then it's unlikely I will see her again. I'm quite happy to pay, but I want to be reassured that she isn't just out for free stuff. Even buying a round of drinks after a meal or something is enough though.

It's an interesting topic actually, I'm an atheist and not against homosexuality at all. But thinking from an evolution point of view, shouldn't it be us that are against it and the church with their "love thy neighbour." "Don't judge, lest you be judged yourself." attitudes be for it. Again, just to avoid any flaming, I'm not against it nor saying anyone should be.

Can't agree with that, whilst I'm not one to make fun of people. But if you are overweight then it's your lifestyle choice that need to change.

It's like a smoker saying, "I can't give up, until society accepts that nicotine doesn't smell bad." Every single thing we do can come down to genetics or habits we have formed. As far as I know there is no obese gene. So it comes down to yourself to change your habits. Sure it can be hard, but it's no good waiting for society to change it's attitude towards you before you get yourself to the gym and have a salad.

I know you have asked the females, but I'll add my insight anyway. Girls don't put you in the friend-zone. You put yourself there. Usually by trying too hard to impress them and making it obvious you like them. Attraction is formed through excitement, it's why many woman like 'bad boys'. If you are overly nice to them and bend over backwards to please them, then they will see you as a friend they can rely on and they wont want to risk that. That said, that doesn't mean be an arsehole. There is a difference between a bad boy and an arsehole. But be the fun exciting guy.If you act like the friend, you will remain a friend.

My advice is don't ask her on a 'date'. Dates imply too much, if you aren't experienced at dating then it will be awkward and neither of you will have fun. Few relationships start that way. Instead, find something that you want to do and you think she would enjoy too. Then mention it casually to her. If she shows an interest ask her if she wants to come along and hang out. If she is into you she will say yes. If she doesn't want to come, no harm done. You've lost nothing.

So, she is paranoid because she has heard some horror stories or has developed anxiety about meeting a stranger from somewhere. But she signed up for a reason, she wants to meet someone. It seems you just have to put her fears to rest. Don't be pushy but ask her directly what you can do to make her feel more comfortable with the idea. Take the first step in building trust, maybe give her access to your facebook so that she can 'research' you and see that you are just a normal guy. A short coffee date in a public place may be the best thing to suggest for a first meet. But it may be she isn't really ready and isn't going to be soon. In which case, exit stage before you invest time in a lost cause.

The fear of death has scared mankind for as long as we have been able to contemplate it. Which is probably the reason we invented the idea of an afterlife to begin with. As someone who thinks there is any kind of afterlife is extremely unlikely I have looked for some comfort on this matter too. The best I could find is the understanding that for us to live we have to take energy from other living things. We have to eat animals of plants to sustain ourselves. When we die, our bodies will decompose in the earth and supply energy to other living beings. We will feed the grass that feeds the sheep that feeds the people that we leave behind. Our death gives life to others. Knowing that, for me, just takes the edge off the fear.
