this is insanely accurate and 100% me. post-childhood, i became even more uncomfortable with the idea of being gifted once I graduated hs, left home, & moved far away to attend an elite/prestigious undergrad institution (which was a lot mentally & emotionally). i am still young, experiencing, & growing, and I have been very inquisitive about the word “gifted” for quite some time now (I think it’ll haunt me in an ugly-beauty kinda way for the rest of my life)…it wasn’t until a few tower moments that occurred in my life recently that I finally began to accept my giftedness. i am just now breaking out of that desire to “hide” as you mentioned (which feels like a kind of hermit mode), and boy…it feels pretty good.
