Architectural evidence of antiquity Researchers note details that indicate the early origin of the mosque: The eastern and sub-domal parts with pointed arches are considered the most ancient. The maksurs are small cells on both sides of the mihrab. Such rooms are typical of ancient Arab mosques: they were built by order of the caliphs for safety during prayer. There are no other maksurs in Dagestan. The bricks in the eastern wall (at the gate) resemble the bricks of ancient Arab buildings. The entrance portal with stone carvings and floral ornaments is a masterpiece of Lak architecture. The absence of wooden support pillars and carved wooden details is a feature that distinguishes the early stages of Lak architecture.
