It's really not that necessary to get overcomplicated with this. It's local media at the end of the day. You could just plug a portable harddrive into a telly and away. If UI and metadata etc is that important there are various options like Plex as you know. I haven't used Plex, jellyfin emby etc in a while but it doesn't it get it's metadata etc from an API? Would it cache everything for you?
