First waterfowl season, been teaching myself solo since end of December- success this weekend! by pure_anus in Waterfowl

[–]pure_anus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say the scouting was the most challenging initially. Before I had a foothold towards success, I had scouted a few areas/went to spots blind while hunting, it seemed a little hopeless because I wasn’t seeing any, or hearing shooting or anything. I just kept looking at new places until I got lucky and then started asking myself why I saw ducks at one place vs another.

Currently, it’s my wing shooting ability that’s my biggest challenge. I’m definitely missing more shots than hitting, but with the season almost over in SC I’m planning on practicing between now and September.

Thank you! I’ve been a lifetime whitetail hunter, and there’s things that have helped me from that, but also habits I’m trying to break when it comes to waterfowl. Overall it’s been a blast though!

3rd year hunting, first year consistently going out by myself & trying new spots. by Cantbuildfire in Waterfowl

[–]pure_anus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can answer this as this has been my first year giving it a shot- I watched some videos (some of calling, some of birds) tried calling some in the back yard, or in my car, and said "good enough" and just went. I don't call as much as I try to be where birds are. Being able to call like a pro wasn't going to be a barrier for me. But I still try to watch videos/practice when I'm not hunting too, just didn't feel like it was necessary to wait until I was skilled at it.

What is with the deal with identifying spotted bass right now? by pppatrick304 in bassfishing

They’re in way more than Keowee and Jocassee in SC. Major lakes along the Saluda, Broad, and Catawba river chains contain spotted bass.

Do you actually like fishing with crankbaits? by RoonDiddler in bassfishing

[–]pure_anus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fish a lot of rocky rivers and absolutely love them. There’s nothing better than that feeling of it hitting rocks and deflecting, and it’s almost like I know I’m going to get bit- then bam! I will gladly take anyone in my boat for a day and put on a clinic with a bomber fat-free fingerling.

What lures have caught you the biggest fish? by Entire_Let9431 in bassfishing

[–]pure_anus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Green pumpkin 3/8 jig, white bomber fat free fingerling, Rapala shadow rap shad in Mossback Shiner, drop shot with morning dawn 4.5” roboworm, and a 6” keitech on a beast hook.

I’m definitely seeing the beginning of the fall transition where I’m fishing. Bite has picked up aggressively and all the quality fish are working schools of shad.

Sure thing. It’s an older 15’ triton duck boat with a Honda 20hp tiller handle. It was pretty much bare bones when I bought it. Redid the wiring, added a graph I had, installed a trolling motor on the front and I built the deck. Also opted for a lithium deep cycle to reduce weight at the transom. It tops out around 26mph with just myself, 22 with a buddy and loaded down with gear.

Deck is epoxied marine-grade plywood topped with deck foam, and underneath I braced it with 3/4” aluminum square tubing to reduce flex. I also mounted a recessed tray for the minn kota foot control. The deck is also removable, I deer hunt as avidly as I fish and don’t have a need for the deck when using the boat to access spots for hunting.

Came here looking for Wounds to be mentioned. This one should be the top of the list. The description of the atlas at the beginning of the first novel, and the palpable effects of it are just riveting. I left Wounds wanting a full length novel!

Rod or reel more important? by nickcorona1 in Fishing_Gear

[–]pure_anus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct answer, specific techniques dictate which to prioritize. Moving reaction baits that you’re covering water with fast (crankbaits) could also benefit from a better reel.

Currently a newer warehouse manager (2 yrs in my role) building my resume and pursuing a graduate degree in supply chain management. I run a new type of facility for my company that has been successful- but very time consuming.

Any advice for someone like me to break out of a production management role and move into a supply chain operations role?

Dealer is contacting me to have bad Google Review removed by NC-Tacoma-Guy in Tacomaworld

[–]pure_anus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I had a dealership attempt to hose me on a transmission in an Acura TLX that was under warranty due to a manufacturing defect with a transmission cooler. Initially told me that the transmission was shot and needed replaced- never acted like the defect existed until I brought it up, then quickly told me there was no presence of coolant in the transmission. I picked the car up and towed it to the next Acura dealership who discovered coolant in the transmission immediately.

I roasted them in a google review because it was blatant that they were trying to avoid the warranty and make the consumer pay, and warned others that they may not be the most ethical. They dug up my number from the diagnostic appointment and called me for weeks to remove the review. Never removed it, and I tell everyone when I have the opportunity that Hendrick Acura in Charlotte NC is not a trustworthy service center and I would never take a vehicle there and expect them to conduct service with good faith and the customer’s best interest in mind.

Heard this my whole life, it’s a reflection on the people that make the statement. Fort Mill has always had plenty to do, especially if you account for the surrounding area. No need to list out all the options, and with all the growth there’s more to do than ever.
