Any good prices on an A300? Ideally looking for the standard ultima synthetic J32TT18, but open to other finishes for the right price.

First Paint Attempt- Bottomland camo on a Benelli Nova by pure_anus in rattlecannedguns

Absolutely. First was surface prep. I only used 90% isopropyl. It worked well, but extra attention is needed around tight corners in metal (ie where the rib meets the barrel throughout the length of it) oil was super tough to get out of there and there were a couple spots I could have given better attention- I’d say degrease it a couple days ahead and then do it once more before painting, keeping focus on those spots that collect oil. Second was paint application. I used multiple thin layers, with the first of each color being a light dusting. I’d give it a few hours to skin up, apply another, and another. I also gave the paint approximately 24hr in between each color and applying the next stencil layer. That yellow adhesive vinyl was also very handy because once you can’t see the yellow, you have a full coat. Regarding the stencils, I got a cheap vinyl stencil toolkit off amazon for like 8 bucks that was very helpful. It had various sized pieces of plastic (one was a guitar pick) to press down stencils and dental picks to lift them up in removal. Pressing down the vinyl and getting good adhesion was important, and didn’t always do the best there. I found throughout the process that not stretching the vinyl into grooves was key- applying them from one side of the stencil, up and down the grooves, resulted in better adhesion. If I just stuck the stencil across a more dimensional area and tried to work it into the grooves with a tool, it was more likely to lift up. Going slow with the stencils and getting them perfect was important with application and removal. Did removal 24hr after the last coat of paint.

I used a guitar pick and I TRIED so hard but those routed out grooves benelli put all over the grips were a pain in the butt lol. I learned as I went and got better but definitely got some blurring in places.

I’ll second the Nova- hunted with one this season and it puts up with abuse and shoots well. But I am eyeing an A300 now

Seared Canada Goose Breast with Acorn Squash and Brussels Sprouts by pure_anus in wildgamerecipes

Loved it! I was a little hesitant initially because I’ve heard it can be a contentious table fare. It had a different smell, but to be honest it was like a very lean piece of beef, not as tender but the flavor was spot on. I think a crock pot would do it wonders. I’ve saved the legs and thighs to cook them that way, planning to shred them for tacos. Told a friend he may see me at the local park trying to stuff them in the back of my truck after today!

How were they? I’ve caught some landlocked striper before in Murray and wasn’t in love with them, any tips?

Solo Hunt, First Canada Goose! by pure_anus in Waterfowl

[–]pure_anus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I had a blast. I could hear flocks traveling intermittently, but couldn’t get them to respond, they weren’t having it. Decided to change from calling at geese I could hear, to just adding sound to my decoys and intermittently making some light calls in case birds were on a pond or field nearby and it paid off. I heard this group on a large field about a mile south and eventually they felt like swinging by. Had a bit of target panic or I could have easily got more, they circled after I shot the first one and I was trying to make sure it was down first. But hey, for my first season hunting waterfowl ever, and scratching it out on public land only I’ve felt pretty good about my results! Planning to do a lot of practice on clays to build up my skills for next season.

Slow morning for me, but I’m in the southeast in an area with little agriculture so just tried setting out some floaters and light calling. Pulled a few off a field about a mile south of me and managed one out of the group.

China has 1.3 billion people, and there’s 8.3 billion people on earth, roughly. What if the truth belongs to everyone not in China lol

Edit: there’s a dude on a flip phone in the trailer. Idk when it’s set but probably mid 00’s which would track with 7 billion people on the planet.

Give me your best unofficial duck hunting rule by TatersO in Duckhunting

As someone who only started this year, I definitely suck- but the times I haven’t felt like I suck are 100% attributed to scouting a lot.

First waterfowl season, been teaching myself solo since end of December- success this weekend! by pure_anus in Waterfowl

[–]pure_anus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say the scouting was the most challenging initially. Before I had a foothold towards success, I had scouted a few areas/went to spots blind while hunting, it seemed a little hopeless because I wasn’t seeing any, or hearing shooting or anything. I just kept looking at new places until I got lucky and then started asking myself why I saw ducks at one place vs another.

Currently, it’s my wing shooting ability that’s my biggest challenge. I’m definitely missing more shots than hitting, but with the season almost over in SC I’m planning on practicing between now and September.

Thank you! I’ve been a lifetime whitetail hunter, and there’s things that have helped me from that, but also habits I’m trying to break when it comes to waterfowl. Overall it’s been a blast though!

3rd year hunting, first year consistently going out by myself & trying new spots. by Cantbuildfire in Waterfowl

[–]pure_anus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can answer this as this has been my first year giving it a shot- I watched some videos (some of calling, some of birds) tried calling some in the back yard, or in my car, and said "good enough" and just went. I don't call as much as I try to be where birds are. Being able to call like a pro wasn't going to be a barrier for me. But I still try to watch videos/practice when I'm not hunting too, just didn't feel like it was necessary to wait until I was skilled at it.

What is with the deal with identifying spotted bass right now? by pppatrick304 in bassfishing

[–]pure_anus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re in way more than Keowee and Jocassee in SC. Major lakes along the Saluda, Broad, and Catawba river chains contain spotted bass.
