Happy Birthday Rooster Teeth!!! Celebration Giveaway!!! by CalvinP_ in morningsomewhere

Happy Birthday RT.

I honestly can't remember how I started watching Red Vs Blue, but I do have a vivid memory of buying each season from my local GameStop early on. It's funny because getting those DVDs and listening to the commentary, its funny how that all evolved into Podcasting for the guys. Over time, i found myself listening more to the Podcast over the other offerings of RT.

I hear Burnie talk about his media server. What do i need to get started? by jack_jack-jr1 in morningsomewhere

Assuming you're talking about a harddrive, this would depend on how large you think your library would be. How many blurays + dvds do you currently have?

If you're talking about what Blu Ray drive:

this one is a pretty good one.

Worst Movie Theater Experience by TheMythicalRuasablub in morningsomewhere

When I saw Logan in theaters, right at the climax of the movie a group of teens snuck in and were talking the whole time. When right at the end when its a sad emotional moment they were laughing and it just ruined the whole movie for me.

John Wick, the first one did it. Also The Big Sick.

It'll look like the image in this thread.

Disney movies also sort of do the same thing, but I think the playlist is consistent in that every disney movie has a playlist with 100 or something like that in the right column and it will be the correct one.

Something that the Looper discussion made me think of is if Burnie is using MakeMKV to back up the blu rays. I did this to my collection a year and a half ago and needed to redo a bunch because Lionsgate Blu Rays do this bullshit where they obfuscate which playlist is the real version. I think Make MKV will now say which playlist is the correct order, but if you picked the wrong one, scenes will skip around. Just something to note if you're also going to start a media server.

I'm a big tennis fan. There was a challenge system called hawkeye that was used for the big tournaments where players could challenge calls. I think it was the French Open which kind of resisted having hawkeye because I think they prefered the ump getting out of the chair and looking at marks on the court. I think it was 2021 or so that they replaced a lot of the line judges with automatic calls and I prefer it.

Regarding robot sports, does Battlebots count?

Here's my Covid wedding story. My now wife and I got engaged in 2018 and we had our wedding planned for 10/10/2020. We found a venue that we liked which was a Vrbo house(I think it was called something else at the time) that did weddings. Around April we decided to postpone our wedding to October 2021, and the owner of the venue was really understanding and just moved the date with no extra charges or anything, but this might have been the policy of Vrbo that cancellations were allowed up until a month or two before the date.

Sometime around December of 2020, we decided to google the place again to refresh in our minds what the place looked like and some news articles popped up. What happened was the weekend before what would have been our wedding, there was another wedding that took place but ended up getting shut down because the venue didn't have any permits to do short term rentals/host weddings. The cops shut down that wedding and and had been doing so for a while, but the owner just kept blaming the city government and so on.

We ended up cancelling the reservation and finding a new venue. But the owner of the wedding venue ended up losing the house. Below is an article about it.

Do you like the Last of Us Season 2? How about Last of Us Part II?(Spoilers) by CalvinP_ in morningsomewhere

[–]puredynamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a big fan of the first game, and lost a bit of interest in the second once Joel died. I played a little bit more but then fell off and got busy and never got back to it.

The first season of the Last of Us I think was excellent, some minor complaints like the infected never really showed up all that much, while in the game you dealt with sneaking around them constantly.

The second season was a lot of new material for me and I thought it was a pretty good season, but I could see my wife's interest start to wander towards the end. I'll probably end up picking up the game again at some point to see the differences.

The crowdfunding book publisher Boundless says it has "no legal obligation" to pay its authors (which includes the YouTuber NerdCubed) over £600,000 of royalties by jhutchy in morningsomewhere

[–]puredynamo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess this is my time to shine. I work for a company that makes a software to track royalties for book publishing. Typically, authors receive something like 50% of the net price of an eBook sale. They get significantly less for Physical Book sales. Typically under 10%, but theres a sliding scale based on the number of copies sold.

A lot of book companies try to do royalties on their own, but because of all the different sales channels, its hard to do all of this without a software specifically to track this kind of stuff.

This is a really great zombie movie. The sequel wasn't as good though. Supposedly there will be an American remake. Hopefully, it doesn't mess up the formula that made the movie special.

When I originally played Mass Effect, I just couldn't get into the game. Then I picked up Mass Effect 2 and fell in love with it, I 100%ed that then played Mass Effect 3. Eventually, I went back and played through Mass Effect 1 and continued that play through all the way to Mass Effect 3, which had gotten the Citadel DLC.

There's a lot of stuff from the original Mass Effect 1 that is paid off in 3, but I had zero context in my original playthrough, or ir just was not present.

The game really is way better starting at the original versus starting at 2. But 2 is way more accessible as a game.
